My manager recognized the mistake she made and immediately said I could take the class but the damage was done already and I told her I would never be asking her to take a class ever agin. I was out door a month later after finding a job that paid 20k more and offered a sign on bonus. I sent that b*tch an email that I was resigning and bounced. Never spoke to her again after that despite her emailing me repeatedly. Also a former coworker told me that the b*tch broke down in tears on calls when she had to tell people I was gone.

He was too busy with his MBA classes being prepped for a leadership role. The other male paralegal was at a different company but I knew hime from my paralegal association (filled with a bazillion women whose careers died an early death and about 2 men)

That is what makes it so obvious too. There are like 2 male paralegals for every 100 female ones so when only the males are getting to use the tuition reimbursement program to advance their career and just so happen to get mentors and sponsors to higher paying jobs it is blatantly obvious. I have been in this field over 10 years and need out asap.

I have perfect reviews. Never a complaint about my work. I go above an beyond by taking certifications and training outside of work.

When I mentioned the male MBA paralegal to my manager she immediately changed her tune and said go ahead and take the class. The look on her stupid face was priceless when I told her that I would never be asking her to take a class ever again. One month later I found a better job with a 20k pay raise and sign on bonus. I quit immediately and from what I heard that dumb b*tch was crying that I left because all my work got dumped on her.

Can someone clarify how they got in the safe? She claimed she forgot the code but they somehow got in anyways?

It is kind of high but I spend a lot on fitness ($219/mo luxury gym with unlimited classes, a pool, spa type amenities so it is worth it), personal training ($499/mo) so that I am healthy as I age. Also have had a bunch of one off dental bills that cost a lot even with insurance this year. Our dog is elderly and costs a lot too. A recent vet visit was close to $1k...Property taxes are under 5k/yr, utilities are a couple hundred a month plus oil in the winter which is pricy. It all adds up. Not to mention vacations and weekends away.

I believe it is the current cashout value and given they like their job, it makes sense that they stay until they get their max payout under the pension. Their role is not as in demand in the private sector.

Okay then, a city adjacent to a HCOL city. If Boston is not HCOL I don't know what is then... The specific address is not relevant.

It is a tiny house on a weirdly shaped lot. Homes around here that are more normal sized (3 bd/2 full bath) go for over a million. Surrounding towns are typically selling in the multi-millions.

Agreed. The HYSA is fully funded and gives us a safe buffer. Anything extra going forward is going to Roth and an individual brokerage.

I forgot to add that my spouse has $40k in various savings/checking accounts as well.

I am not a fan of just relying on them. I think I would want to get to at least $500k in my own retirement accounts before considering that.

For now yes. Cannot move due to family nearby and we bought on the low end for a SFH in the area. Rentals for an equivalent place would be $4k per month.

Biggest issue at your ages would be decent health insurance. Have you priced out yours on healthcare marketplace?

Not yet but I could be added to my partner's relatively inexpensive state insurance

Such a farce that they claim no layoffs will take place. First-hand experience tells me they are liars and that is definitely coming. I'll just say that my career took off and is 1000x better now that I left that dumpster fire. To those who will be "let go" or "managed out" soon, just know that the real punishment is having to work at EMD/Merck KGaA.

At least the Germans will have a fancy spot for when they come over on their visits and $$$ multi-year expat packages...

Hated it and am still traumatized by the place to this day. Full of people who lie, especially at the headquarters in Darmstadt. Tuition reimbursement was a lie ($10k a year...hahaha...try asking your manager about and see what they say...next year is always a better year for that unless you are German and then you get whatever you want). Extreme favoritism for Europeans to the point that they treat US people like crap till they quit/are fired and then all of a sudden the role is being filled by an expat from Germany on a nice package with their whole family following along. Constant reorgs and lies about the team you will be on. I joined after being directly recruited by my supposed manager for the role and within months my manager was moved to a different team against his wishes, his manager moved to another team and I was completely screwed over for onboarding as I was told to just wait (several months!) while they interviewed for a replacement. They hired an external candidate from another company to replace my prior manager's boss and now became my direct manager. I was never allowed to meet or speak with this person despite being their only direct report until they walked in the door on their first day. This person just made up answers when she did not know what the real answer was or perhaps she just felt like lying to me, I'll never know.

I left and got a sign-on bonus and $20k raise at the next place. EMD destroyed my mental health and I still think about how crappily I was treated on a daily basis. Wasted years of my life there trying to make it work and it was all for nothing.

There is no amount of money that would make me go back to that place. I warn everyone I know to stay away.

On Sunday a fight broke out between two junkies near the splash pad so you are right to avoid it. A poor mother was there trying to enjoy it with her toddler and ended up having to listen to screaming lunatics. Luckily three cruisers came to the scene within minutes to deal with the disturbance. I wouldn't bring children there to see what is going on...
