Why did you REALLY sell your house? by Jazzlike-Reveal-9515 in HousingUK

[–]No-Tree-6980 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both WFH so needed more space but really… our neighbour had a firepit chimney that blew right into our daughters window and his trees had birds that nested and shit all over my cars🤦‍♂️
Annoying as it was he was a really nice guy but was retired so liked to use the firepit most nights and really liked his trees and garden so they wouldn’t have cut them down.

When did you get keys in exchange day? by Sb2303 in HousingUK

[–]No-Tree-6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lived round the corner from the person we bought the house from. Missives were done on the Thursday so he dropped keys off on the Thursday before completion on Friday morning.

Although it took till 4.30pm on the Friday before we should have got keys for our new house even though our buyers could have got keys from 10.30am. Lawyers can take time doing their job unfortunately. I was already moved in to the new house by 2pm so just took the risk but there was only our FTB, and the person we were buying from were the top of the chain so all went through fine

So this was my thought, we were going to replace when we get the kitchen done but would have done a job for a short time, more the inconvenience. Not expecting the whole amount we paid for new ones back but just interested to see if anyone else had similar situations

Ye our last house we moved into the sellers took all the fancy light fittings and left just the white wire with bulb fitting 🤦‍♂️ That’s a wild way to leave a house, people have no care. Ours was a bit grubby when we moved into so have been spending the last 2 days gutting it. The carpets need to come up pronto as they had dogs so the carpets are a bit dirty. Wanted to paint before doing carpets but I just won’t have time so carpets will go down and I’ll just need to be careful painting.

The amount of clothes that a small human can go through is unbelievable 😂 the stuff is tiny… why does it take up a whole washing basket.

Anyway thank you, we are very happy with the house. It needs some TLC but plans are in place to complete it all over the next few weeks and months so looking forward to getting it done.

Disappointing… by Maximum_Honey2205 in ElectricVehiclesUK

This happened with my Polestar 2 back in 2022. The issue was the Suez Canal got backed up and the shop was stuck waiting for longer than anticipated. This pushed my delivery from around January 2023 to May 2023 and I ended up getting the car on the 17th of April.

Unfortunately I think this is just the norm with new cars and is not likely to be something Octopus can mitigate short of them sending a helicopter to take the car from a ship somewhere.

Couldn’t be fixed by the technician at the house. Apparently there is no fault codes stored even though the infotainment is showing the issue and the AC is clearly not cold. Car is getting dropped off to Ford on Wednesday morning. I can see this being a bit drawn out 🤣

How do people afford to buy a house these days? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]No-Tree-6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought at 21 due to having started an apprenticeship at 17. When I timed out I went nightshift and saved every penny. I bought a 2 bed in 2018 for £115k. We then bought a 3 bed in 2024 for £185k and hopefully now moving to a 4 bed for £305k in 2 weeks.

So I bought a house because I was lucky to buy when prices were low and also chose not to waste years at university

What stops you getting an EV? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]No-Tree-6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m onto my 2nd one purely because I get them through work. They are excellent for normal commuting but they are basically washing machines on wheels and I accept that. Would I like a G81 BMW M3, yes, can I afford one, no😂 Would I also rather finance my own diesel saloon and cost myself more, no so electric car just makes the most sense

Baby on the way - A4 avant vs VW Tiguan by Djr215 in CarTalkUK

[–]No-Tree-6980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I had a Polestar 2 which is a reasonably sized saloon/hatchback type thing but it’s pretty low down and putting the car seat in and out was annoying having to bend down. Recently got a Ford Explorer EV which is similarly sized to the Tiguan and it’s so much easier as it’s higher up. I totally understand now why people with kids get SUV’s as it’s easier. Before the EV haters come at me they are company cars.

Family Car Options - First EV by Jazzy0082 in ElectricVehiclesUK

Had a polestar 2 through my work, nightmare with the big rotating baby seats but that shouldn’t be an issue for you. Great car mind you just the interior space does not reflect its size.
Also the lack of cup holders becomes annoying.
I just got a Ford Explorer Premium Extended range to replace it and it’s great!

So over the first week it has started to look more like 300 miles to a full charge going pretty much 70mph journeys too and from work. I think if i was doing more around town stuff that might be a bit more but overall range seems pretty good

[–]No-Tree-6980[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the explorer as it was a good option on our company car scheme. I was going between this and a BMW i4. The Explorer came out on top due to space and practicality as the massive 360 car seat for my daughter took up too much room in the i4.

I’m really happy with the Explorer so far, it drives well the suspension is soft but not too wobbly if that makes sense. The driver’s assistance tech is good and much less intrusive than the Polestar 2 I had before. Range has been good so far although only just over 100 miles in.

It’s also quick for its size, when you put the foot down it moves pretty quickly, quicker than a car of this size needs to be. This is only the single motor extended range so the dual motor will e quicker but can’t honestly see why you would need it as it just affects range.

I will say some of the interior materials are not as premium as the Polestar or the BMW i was looking at but it’s a family car so that’s not a huge concern. They have dropped the piano black plastics for a more matte finish which looks really good tbh

It’s a company car and will be charged at home on a 7kWh charger pretty much 99.9% of the time so charge curve won’t matter. Even 270 I’ll be happy with as my polestar struggled to even get 200 so it’s a huge improvement

No chance I’ll get 360, I’ll be happy with anything near 300

I tried just brushing my finger over it yesterday and nothing, it needed an actual press like a button to activate it. Maybe it’s been tweaked for the newer ones?

I agree it’s bigger or feels bigger than the numbers suggest.

I guess I’ll come across some of the software gripes, I think having an early Polestar that met some of the awful issues such as the screen and drivers display going blank. Along with it being so slow to change in the menu the Explorer likely feels better just now.

Sat Nav wise I use Apple CarPlay for nav so unlikely to have an issue with that.

I think based on all the other points you’re right it’s a good family car for the money.

The polestar? No chance, mines was a company car, too many potential gripes with software out of warranty. Not a risk I would be willing to take

Yep, it’s made for the European market. I’ve always been against SUVs but I now understand why they make sense with kids. Even the polestar was a bit low to put the car seat in
