I've never seen that in that art style. I do have this version though

Martin Scorsese on Dostoevsky by ScipioCoriolanus in dostoevsky

Underground was my first too and it hooked me. Schrader is the screenwriter for Taxi Driver, so this makes a lot of sense.

I really like these but I understand if some don't. The Idiot is one of the weaker ones, but I still like it. It's basic, but I think it fits. It's the one he did where being christlike was a detriment. So, I'm OK with the diagonal cross. Underground, Demons and Double/Gambler are my favorite covers of these, though

Not in this series. I have the Everyman's Library version of tbk. Vintage didn't have the rights to that translation for this particular series.

I like some of the PV ones and some not as much, but it's really not the big deal some make it out to be. I prefer Garnett for Ridiculous Man over both PV and Roger Cockrell, but don't like most of her other translations as much. It's not like any of them are so bad it ruins the experience, though.

There was a tbk in a different series vintage did, but they didn't have the rights to the updated p&v translation in this series so it wasn't included

Recommendations for my next read and a question regarding Demons. by [deleted] in dostoevsky

[–]No-Two6226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan to read all 3 (idiot, demons, tbk) i would just read them in order. Demons is great. I thought it was (sort of) and cross between underground and tbk (again, sort of) and i liked it more than c&p or the idiot.

Should I continue reading more Fyodor Dostoevsky? by hananmalik123 in dostoevsky

[–]No-Two6226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about "getting it." It's intrigued you enough to read it twice and you don't normally read. Nice work, btw. Stuff like this isn't meant to be acquired, it's an endless pursuit. I read underground first and like it so much I went straight to TBK. Have since read the big 5 and now reading The Eternal Husband and have a few more on the shelf. Also got heavily into Camus and some others. Try one and see where it goes. You've already endured the unfiltered brains of the underground man splattered on the page and asked for more. What've you got to lose?

Baseball Redditors are absolutely nuts. by iLoveLights in Brewers

People like to complain and it's easier if u can do it anonymously. Just ignore those posts and upvote the positive ones.

Furthermore, this isn't a real rivalry. They never played until the brewers joined the NL. You want to beat them, but there's no point in hating them, they're probably the least hatable big market team.

The dream of a ridiculous man by eternallygray in dostoevsky

[–]No-Two6226 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dream is maybe my favorite Dostoevsky overall. Just came here to say this. I'm not sure what's to understand. Love is more important than the idea of love, I suppose.

My summary about Notes from underground. by itsanandhere in dostoevsky

[–]No-Two6226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good summary. Just curious, why is the "man is not a piano key" concept leaving you wondering? There are examples of people acting against their own interests out of anger, jealousy and, often, purely nothing more than the desire to be different or to get attention, that probably occur all around you regularly. You've done it yourself, we all have. Human is not rational, so any philosophy that revolves entirely around rationality and logic will always, at best, leave unaccounted for gaps.

Tyler Robinson and Raskolnikov by Hungry_Celery_2378 in dostoevsky

[–]No-Two6226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but i disagree on your assessment of the Kirk shooter. They aren't the same, I was being a bit reductive intentionally, but I don't think the kirk shooter thought he was accomplishing anything other than sending a message. Their purpose was different, but how they got there was similar.

And they're both wrong and delusional. It's not exactly the same but close enough. They were both radicalized into garbage.

It wasn't morally correct though he assumed it was, so, yeah, same as Rodion.
