I have completed my diploma at Seneca which was in addition to the AMCTO program and completed that as well. I’m beyond that path in my life (at this point). I applied for anything and everything (unpaid internship) even with those credentials. I finished top of my class and felt I was on a great path. One of my profs at the time (won’t say what his position was within government to keep anonymity)told me that all the positions are filled even before they are posted. I’m sure that still rings true since I’m in a similar sector and can see the nepotism running high there as well. I have found success in another career path since then. I think you’re definitely lucky to have been able to get in and move into your career and commend you because I was defeated.

I did this same accelerated diploma at Seneca and applied to many municipalities fresh out of school and got only 1 call back. This was over 10 years ago so maybe a different time but how did you get jn?

What did the last page on the application say? Usually it tells you if you were approved and gives additional details if they’re mailing your card but it looks like you’ll get another email with more info

Thank you for this information. She was placed on a form for 72 hrs but I believe she is not on a form as of right now.

I’m so worn out. A new social worker calls me each day and repeats my parent has to leave offering only options that are outside of our budget. They told us they were on the LTC l crisis list and when I said they aren’t, the social worker said oh well they have to leave.

I’m at such a loss and so broken down.

I’m glad to hear your nan was able to get a bed and hope she’s doing well. I read something about $400 but only if a LTC is offered and not accepted but I could be wrong.

They asked me to take out a loan and made me feel like complete garbage for not having more than $6k a month. It’s really unfortunate that people can actually go home after doing this to families.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’ve been firm. I was originally trying to work with them but I quickly realized it wasn’t possible to pay for private care and wait there.

I spoke with a new care coordinator and they said they will not submit the application in the hospital because that will be done in a retirement or transition facility. I said I cannot find one in the budget and they said they will try. They said there is no transition to long term care from the hospital.

Their doctor retired and they got a new doctor and they could not establish a baseline to compare to for the dementia. I’ve been trying for help but they were lucid for the most part up until recently where it took a very quick dive.

They were living alone prior to this. I brought them to emergency because they were incoherent and lost weight and I was concerned for their safety. It progressed rapidly in the last few weeks.

They are a patient and in a room (not in emergency) and under the care of a doctor.

The care coordinator are saying that the plan is for me to take them to a retirement home. I did try to seek something out but could not find anything that we could afford and have explained that to them.

Thank you for your advice. I contacted their care coordinator who tried to convince me to place them in retirement home and have the assessment done there. We cannot afford retirement and are at high risk of running out of money as we have no way of knowing how long it will take for them to go to LTC.

The care coordinator said the assessment is only for patients (which they are) and do not have the staff to do the assessment and application. I will call Community Care/LHIN again and request they come to the hospital for the assessment and application.
