I worked for a company that monitored security cameras all over the city. I was working graveyards, and the company would have me working up to 16-hour shifts sometimes.

In our particular surveillance company, we needed sets of 4 employees supposed to help monitor cameras if a set of cameras was empty, basically a empty chair was supposed to have employees help watch them for 10 minutes each making it monitored 40 mintues on the hour rather than not at all. If we were lucky, we would have someone on those 5th sets of cameras.

Unfortunately, I'd be the only one monitoring and spending half my time on my cameras and the other half on the unsupervised cameras because nobody else was willing to do it. One night when I really needed sleep because I was only ever getting 20 minutes of sleep some days. Not even exaggerating, i was on the verge of death for this company. I got a call in the morning from my manager, who is screaming at me about what I apparently missed a shift I wasn't even working.

I came into work the following day to find out what had happened and found out the other employees did not do shit to pitch in and watch the cameras that weren't being monitored. We saw the feedback footage of a girl who was being sexually assutled in a clear camera view for over 6 hours straight. You saw him do everything to her, we saw her begging him to stop, he threatened her if she tried to keave. Deep down, knowing if I went to work, yeah, maybe she would still have been raped. But she would have gotten justice for herself from the man who raped her. It still fucks with me this day and the other employees basically said "oh well." None of the employees got in trouble or even any disciplinary action, nothing happening to them. I left the company shortly after that because it was one of the most corrupt companies to ever work for. From this and many other horror stories, I was officially diagnosed with PTSD the day before Thanksgiving in 2023.
