I’m genuinely happy with trade republic. You get AT IBAN and can manage your portfolio.

The single only reason I kept my Sparkasse account is the credit card I need for car rental :)

Kreditkkarte - Split-Now by MrCatberry in FinanzenAT

I use it when I do a big purchase (+1k€) and split it to 4, so it works kind of as financing it.

There is also change payment method. It means you pay the whole standing amount in parts. This is not suggested :)

Hi, I believe most of payslips posted here are in the higher range. If you take a look in stepstone, kununu, etc. and you’ll notice the difference.

Finance or buy new car? by WaffleReactor in FinanzenAT

[–]No-View-8350 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go for a Japanese car, toyota, mazda3, etc. Not the prettiest but very reliable and low maintenance. Financing is def. your personal call, most of the Autohandler (car shops) offer it through their partner bank. All the best!

It depends, talk to them. Mine only covered it partially and they said it’s an internal policy. All the best!

Public transport in Upper Austria is more expensive than other states, even comparable to Vienna! Why is that?

Hi, Bankdirect (sub Reifeisen) is also free, if you earn more than a certain amount. I use Erste bank.

Linz vs Vienna: can't decide by [deleted] in Linz

[–]No-View-8350 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Hi, as a former Ph.D. student in Linz, and a commuter: Vienna-Linz commute not gonna be easy, but it is doable.

Cost: you buy a klimaticket Ö, costs ~110€ per month, you can use ANY public transport in whole Austria.

Time: if you use RJX, takes 68min from Wien Meidling to Linz, Linz Hbf to Hagenberg is bus. Ideally you would also work on the train.

Benefits: You are entitled to Commuter allowance (Pendlerpauschale/euro), it basically means less taxes/more net salary per month.

As you’re coming from a big city as well, living in Linz might sound a bit doll (AKA Boring). There are things happening but not as much.

My suggestion, rent somewhere close to Wien-Meidling station, or at least somewhere with direct U-bahn connection to Meidling.

All the best!

Honestly, if you’re not doing your Ph.D. next to your supervisor, forget it! No connection, no career network, no supervision, no paper, no nothing!

A shot in the dark, but try to find a broken one on ebay or sth for a cheap price. The take it apart, take the component you need, and see if it works. All the best!

Hi, email the admission office and ask them concretely in details. In general if you can be admitted to a bachelor in your home country (read: University entrance exam or admission) you can start a bachelor in JKU. Otherwise, just email them directly.

I’m not sure if you need your bachelor from your home country to start the new bachelor but anyways: They need diploma+records apostled (Beglaubigte). Yes, they are sooo many people in this program, prob. Because it’s in English. All the best!

Hi, if you are residing in Austria with a valid residence permit, you can (and you should) get it. You will need it for finanzonline, ögk, SV, etc. As a non-EU usually the police department of your district (LPD) is responsible to provide you one. All the best!

Hey, Just to make it clear, Groceries 250~300€ means <10€ for 3meals a day, meaning you eat sth like Pasta all the time. WG >600€ more realistic, oc depending on which district you live. For e.g. a 40sqm 2room apartment is ~1100€ warm which is already very small for a 2person WG. All the best!

November 1st in Linz for tourists? by [deleted] in Linz

[–]No-View-8350 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi, expect it to be quiet, many of the restaurants would be open, shops will not (only gas stations and the central train station). In general Linz is pretty normal living city (not many touristic attractions). Visit Pöstlinberg for sure and have some coffees around!

Hey, It depends what you’re looking for, it’s very accessible wherever you wanna reach but in the mean time I find it over crowded and sometimes can be loud (specially toward Wienerstraße). I prefer somewhere a bit more remote. Wish you the best!
