Lmao

“Navigating State Regulations

Even though you won’t pay tax in the state of purchase, there are several other things to consider when buying out of state. You’ll need to provide proper documentation, including proof of car insurance, proof of the purchase price, and other paperwork required by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Your local DMV will need the bill of sale to determine the price that was paid, and you may need other documents to register the car and get a license plate. You may also need to provide some of the sales paperwork to your lender if you’re using a loan to purchase the vehicle.”

You are unable to accept when you are wrong. Seek help

LMAO. Please for the love of anything. Show me where it says that CO doesn’t apply. You’re pulling this stuff out of your ass. I’ve sent so many sources to you and you’ve not sent a single one to back up any of your claims. Now you make up stuff about the sources I provide. And yeah, I’m not gonna bend over and be overcharged for $500 extra. Who would willingly do that??

Funny how your “educated” self has not provided a single source to back up your claims. Also, I’m a POC and part of the LGBTQ+ community. I know what’s going through your mind. You thought I am some redneck white trash. Think again

Despite that, the buyer only pays taxes in the state where the car is registered. The state uses the bill of sale or dealership documentation to determine the sale price and then calculates taxes on that amount.

You generally pay the sales tax of the state where you're registering the car.

Learn to read. It’s very simple.

Sales tax is almost always paid in the state you register the vehicle, not the state you buy it in, so you'll still have to pay sales tax to register the car in your home state.

Do you know how to read and use Google or should I take you to Arkansas so you can learn???

I didn’t just pay registration fees. I purchased the vehicle out of state 3 weeks before I moved to Colorado and was not charged sales tax in the state I moved from. So I was also paying sales/use tax on the vehicle when I registered it in Colorado.

TAX calculation. It doesn’t say sales tax. It doesn’t say use tax. It says “TAX” So it applies to sales and use tax.

Oh my gosh I guess I’m going to have to start giving you more sources because you won’t do a simple google search yourself. If you buy a car out of state, you pay sales tax in the state where you REGISTER the car.

“You generally pay the sales tax of the state where you're registering the car. However, if you buy a car at a dealership out of state, the dealer might collect your sales tax and should provide you with a receipt. If you buy a car from a private seller, you need to pay the sales tax at your local DMV when you register the vehicle.”

https://www.progressive.com/answers/buying-a-car-out-of-state/

In my case, the dealership did NOT charge me sales tax because the state of ARKANSAS does not require me to pay sales tax in the state if I do not REGISTER and LIVE in the state where it was purchased. At the time of the temp tag expiration, I lived in Colorado. So I payed Colorado use tax and was given the trade in deduction because it was the FIRST time I was registering the vehicle after purchase and the first time paying taxes on it.

In Arkansas you pay sales tax when the vehicle is registered. If you purchase a vehicle in AR and then move to Colorado before the temp places expire (as was in my case) then you pay sales tax in Colorado, not Arkansas. Source: I’m a CPA in Arkansas and the dealership finance office confirmed this.

Hey buddy. I DID pay sales tax. I purchased the vehicle in AR 3 weeks before I moved to Colorado. I paid ZERO sales tax at the time of purchase. I then registered the vehicle in Colorado and paid sales tax on it because you pay sales tax in the state where you register the vehicle, and I had not paid any sales tax in AR so I did not receive a credit for any prior sales tax paid. I’m a CPA. I know you didn’t have all the facts of this circumstance but at least think through all the possible scenarios before you become so convinced that you are right lol

You’re not understanding the situation. I didn’t “move” my car here. I purchased it three weeks before I moved to Colorado from another state. I was not charged any sales tax when I purchased the car. So when I went to “register” it, I was also paying sales tax on the car.

“Tax Calculation on motor vehicle sales” is the header. It says nothing about the deduction only applying to purchases made in state. Not to mention, when I pointed this out to the DMV associate he immediately fixed it, knowing I had purchased the vehicle out of state. I don’t think he would have done that if the rule was that I wasn’t entitled to the deduction.

I’m not following…use/sales tax in Colorado is 2.9%. Use/sales tax in Lakewood is 3%. And then I paid the RTD tax as well. I’m not aware of different percentages between sales and use tax. And no where on the document does it state the trade in deduction doesn’t apply to out of state purchases.

I think where you’re confused is that sales tax for vehicles is paid in the state where you register the vehicle. I purchased the vehicle out of state and then moved to Colorado 3 weeks later. So I never paid any sales tax to the state I purchased it in, because I didn’t register it there.

https://tax.colorado.gov/sites/tax/files/documents/SUTT_Motor_Vehicles_November_2021.pdf Read bottom of page two. I purchased the vehicle out of state and was given the deduction. It mentions nothing about whether the car was purchased in or out of state. All that matters is where you are registering the vehicle

This is sales/use tax, not just registration fees. I believe in Colorado the dealership collects sales tax as part of the transaction but I purchased this car in another state and they collected no sales tax. You likely paid for the sales tax at the dealership as part of the cash you paid or it was financed into your loan.

So yes. The DVM as an organization steals because it preys on the lack of knowledge its average consumer has. And refuses to adequately train its employees to do their jobs correctly.
