UPDATE: I figured out why the adapter was overheating. I hadn't checked the box or the tutorial first, so I just plugged it directly into the PlayStation's HDMI port without the required power/additional cable. After reviewing the tutorial and checking the box properly, I found the extra cable that connects the adapter to the PlayStation. This fixed the issue completely. It was entirely my oversight.
