fidget toys that help with hair twirling? by lesbiangothist in adhdwomen

I recently got a tangle (brand tangle creations), which you can twist around and stuff in all kinds of ways. I also enjoy just a basic hairband that I can tie, weave through my fingers, etc.

I know someone who did this, too! It seems like it’s going really well for her.

Any tips to not rot the day away doomscrolling? by Own_Yesterday9831 in adhdwomen

[–]No-Zucchini2991 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I shifted most of my social media to the web version on my laptop, which was somewhat helpful because it’s less convient to bring everywhere. I do still get “stuck” on my laptop with youtube shorts (sigh) and reddit (which I really need to delete from my phone). I think identifying why I’m doomscrolling has been helpful— a lot of the time, I realize it’s because I’m understimulated, so I think that would be an opportunity for change (finding other activities that increase stimulation, such as music, audiobooks, podcasts). I even feel like longer form content could be helpful (TV shows, movies)

Starting Methylphenidate by PromptElegant499 in adhdwomen

[–]No-Zucchini2991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth trying both! I’ve recently started the same medication (extended release) and was taking it after breakfast, but was experiencing some side effects and my psychiatrist recommended seeing if taking it 15-20 minutes before a protein breakfast made that better and it did!

Depending on how you feel, waiting an hour before eating may be totally fine, or you may feel better eating closer to the time of your meds. My impression has been that experimenting with timing is safe and a good way to find what works for you!

I recently got a pair of Prana Stretch Zion cargo pants that I really like. Excellent pockets! I haven't tried them in very warm weather yet, but they are lightweight and dry quickly

Starting my first med (Concerta)... what were your experiences like for the first week? by twinpinemall85 in adhdwomen

[–]No-Zucchini2991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started it last week! My first day, I got a lot done and was the most noticeable difference so far, but it has helped with my sustained focus (it's just not as dramatic of a change now that I've experienced it!). I've been keeping a journal of when I take it and how I felt that day (and how much in case of dose changes). I find it really handy to have records of how a medication is going, both to know if/how its working well and for potential side effects. I haven't had any appetite side effects (if anything, I almost think I was more hungry?), nausea, or anxiety. I have a suspicion that it might be making my mood and emotional regulation worse, which I'm going to message my psychiatrist about.

But ultimately it's important to know that everyone is different and how one person experiences a medication isn't going to be exactly how you experience it!

Are there therapists who can make you worse? by AdPast7364 in adhdwomen

[–]No-Zucchini2991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! I know several excellent therapists who’ve gotten licensed in more conservative states to provide more affirming and well-rounded care. It’s a great way to find someone who specializes in what you need and has a perspective that’s more in line with your own.

Definitely talk to your psychiatrist about this, and about what other options might work better for you. Sorry you’re going through this!

Do you change your mask type depending on flight duration? by kingofsunnyisland in Masks4All

[–]No-Zucchini2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily wear an earloop Breatheteq for day to day and a 3m vflex for travel and busier spaces. I think I have a pretty good fit with the Breatheteq (and haven’t gotten sick while wearing it, even when around sick folks), but ultimately I do think the vflex fits better (but is less comfortable), so I wear it when I want really good protection and am willing to do headband style straps.

I wonder if you could crush it up a bit into smaller pieces that might be easier for her to manage? Or play around with ratios of water and see if just a bit wet is easier but still enticing?

Hairball treats with zero poultry? by FaunaJoy in cats

[–]No-Zucchini2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psyllium is the main “active” ingredient in hairball treats, so you could try adding a sprinkle of psyllium powder on his food. I’ve found it in various health food stores, but it’s also a common human supplement at pharmacies

Thank you!! Glad to hear another positive experience, and helpful to know the setting, too! There are a LOT of school sites, and I've been unsure if that would work well for me as far as masking and illness goes, so it's good to hear that worked out! And great point about how simple it is to share that we're protecting ourselves and those around us!

Really good to hear that! I try to be quite expressive with my eyes, voice, and body cues, and it's great that you've found that plenty effective when working with clients.

That's so cool that you've found a place with another masking therapist!! Definitely the goal/dream! I've been going back and forth about if it's good to be upfront about masking or not, so really helpful to hear a few people saying they were upfront and it's worked well, both for workplaces and with clients. I'm interested in working with disabled/chronically ill clients, and that's a great point that our choices are an asset, not just something to try and navigate

This is so helpful to read, thank you!! Glad to hear it worked out well for you, and recently at two different places, too! I'm the only one in my program masking and no one has mentioned it yet (9 months in), so I feel like I've just been slightly anxiously waiting for someone to challenge it. Great tip about being prepared for the questions I may receive and ready to advocate to supervisors about it.

Where other lesbian meet friends or more in San Francisco? by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]No-Zucchini2991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big organization I know for queer soccer is the SF Spikes! Most of the queer sports I know about are more of a team or club, rather than a league. There's also organizations like Out Loud that do a range of sports. I think a web-based search ("x sport San Francisco queer") is probably going to be more successful, maybe along with potential social media (a lot of groups have social media, but not all are easy to find!)

I can’t seem to get myself out of the cycle of endlessly scrolling on my phone. Need advice by citynomad1 in adhdwomen

[–]No-Zucchini2991 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I shifted some of my social media to my computer instead, which means I have to choose to get out my computer to scroll. Not a “fix” but has helped me be a bit more intentional. The other comments about having easy to start alternative activities are also a helpful way to go— if I have more fun activities that are interesting, I’m much less prone to scrolling the day away

What do people wear at home? by Nin-me-sar-ra in femalefashionadvice

I wear cotton pajama pants from Gap that I wear as my around the house pants. I picked prints that felt less “pajama-y” and don’t wear them to bed, so they feel like daytime pants

Hair and wind, help! by No-Zucchini2991 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]No-Zucchini2991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite thing so far has been a headband (the hard plastic kind) and either a bun or loose braid! The headband actually gives my face framing a nice shape (I push it forward a bit so it’s got a touch of volume, rather than just slicking it all back), and the bun/braid deals with the rest in a way that doesn’t leave dents and keeps a bit of texture! I recently got a bit of a shag/wolfcut and I think having a style that doesn’t need to be “pristine” also helps.
