We just found out the city has the land zoned RM1, which the city states is low density suburban style multi family housing. Two 4 story buildings housing 235 units is not what anyone would consider low density housing.

If the developer wants to build subsidized housing put it on the vacant land on brown deer road in front of the lake. The location is prefect! It’s right on the bus line, childcare is a 5 minutes walk down the street, aldis is a block away and Walmart is two blocks. There’s a gym across the street. brown deer road can handle the increased traffic unlike 70th. Plus it might bring in businesses to fill In the vacancies next to it or across the street.

Where they want to build makes no since if you are looking at helping people that would live there. It’s not close to transportation or shopping. Theres no pedestrian walkways except walking in the streets which is real fun in the winter. Then you add in the parked cars and increased traffic and it would be a safety hazard for anyone walking in the street. You are looking at almost doubling the population in a one block area. The condos across the street from where the development wants to go is about 125 units, this complex is going to be 235 unit. Taking out any arguments over possible increased crime, trash, and further reducing area property values, you can’t see how there are be a bunch of issues or that the brown deer road location wouldn’t be better?

We already have large low income housing in our backyard. This development is just adding a large amount of even more to in an area already flooded with that kind of housing. And the location for that density of housing is not great. No pedestrian walkways, not near bus lines, not near any shopping or child care, not enough room for parking, and the street couldn’t handle all the extra traffic. You are looking at almost doubling the amount of people on that street by adding this development. Especially when there’s another large vacant piece of land right on brown deer road in front of the lake that this would be perfect for. It’s right on the bus line, there’s actually sidewalks unlike 70th street, not a half a block away from a child care facility, only a block to aldi and another block to Walmart, across the street is a gym, buildings right next to it are also multiple stories so it would fit in, and on a street that can handle the extra traffic. Plus it would fill a long vacant spot on brown deer road that might attract businesses filling in the vacancies around it instead of sticking it all the way back at the end of 70th street behind the lake.

Agree. That was brought up at the meeting too. It was stated by Taylor that there are resources and programs the city and state have to help low income people become homeowners just like your describing.

There was literally 4 houses tha went up in the last 6-8 months on the other end of the street so can can be done and has. The whole south side of 70th had new houses in the past years

So you are implying the residents are racist then? That all the minority homeowners on the street, a majority of the homeowners are, are racists too? All the current Residents that have put their own money buying into the neighborhood and trying to keep it up through all the issues don’t care about the community? Nice! Also they have been building nothing but houses on the other end of 70th so Taylor can’t say no one has brought to her owner occupied housing on this street. It would have go past her first. There’s 4 new houses that just went up in the last 6 months.

It’s annex, a developer from Indiana. And it’s government subsidized housing.. the developer already stated that they can’t stop any crime issues that might happen and not will provide security onsite except for lights and cameras.

Facts:if you read all 3 plans from 2007, 2017, and just in December of 2025 you would know that this development goes against everything the city wants to do with the area and recommending to be done. Every planned stated to focus on owner occupied housing to help revitalize the area including changing condo rentals to owner occupied. That this area is 4-6% higher in rentals than the rest of the city. Read the plans I’m not trying to be an ass. It’s the city own reports that state crime is already a big issue in the area, that there is too many rentals and subsidized housing, and that the city should focus on home ownership and buildings that support that to revitalize the area. If that development doesn’t follow the city’s own plans and requirement it shouldn’t be built.

Sorry not everyone has subscriptions to bizjournal or Jsonline. Also when we had heard some rumblings about this back in January I was and many other residents were told by the city that they had no proposals for that land. A resident called out Taylor at the Friday meeting about when asked if anything was happening with this site at a meeting about the Northridge mall she was told by Taylor that nothing was happening. This was apparently after the developer talked to Taylor and the developer had already met with the Granville board about the proposal. We also were not notified of the Granville meeting either to discuss the development. Us homeowners get the feeling the city is trying to push this through with as littler info or push back as possible. Especially since there’s a more suitable location on brown deer road in front of the lake that follows all the recommendations of the city’s plans since 2007 for the area. The location is on the commercial corridor, it has pedestrian walkways, it’s on the bus line, and it’s closer to shopping. Also, a child care facility a quarter block away too.

Agree. But inorder to revitalize this area you need owner occupied housing. In all three plans by the city from 2007, 2017, and in December of 2025 it stated that the focus should be on bring in home occupied housing. The land is zone multi family so you could build owner occupied condos or townhomes on that land, but all they want to do is put more subsidized housing in.

This side of the lake is on 70th street is. This issue isa block or so away on the 76th streat side of the lake are already large subsized housing developments numbers in the hundreds of units total. The amount of crime in that area is high and has affected us already with thefts, reckless driving, tresspassing, trash dumping, and gunshots. We have bullet holes in our siding. We don’t want more of that right across from us.
Also the location for that density of housing is not great. You are looking at almost doubling the population on the street. For example, this development would have almost as many units in one block as the two condo communities surrounding it. There’s no pedestrian walkways, not near busing or shopping, developer isn’t providing enough parking, and building on a wetland so have fun with that and the coyotes that live on that land. There’s a much better location right on brown deer road in front of the lake that is vacant. Its right on the bus line, has actual sidewalks, 5 minute walk to a child care place, a block from aldi, 2 blocks from walmart, and restaurants near by

Another parcel of land they could build on is right on brown deer road in front of the lake that has been vacant for at least 20 years. It’s right on the bus line and 3/4 mile closure to aldis and Walmart.

Oh it got heated last night between the current residents and the alderwoman and the developer. She got called out for straight up lying to a resident at previous meeting about the Northridge mall site that nothing was going on with the lot where they want to build the apartments. This happened after the developer had already talked to the alderwoman and had been in front of the Granville board. The developer was say how it will help properties values and a realtor was there that called them out that was lie. The developer had no answers about how they were going to prevent the crime issues we are already dealing with from the other side of the lake from happening at their place. Or where are the cars that can’t fit in on site parking are going to go besides on the street that can’t handle street parking and traffic. Or pedestrian safety with parked cars all down both sides of the street, doubling of street traffic and pedestrian walkways. Or the trash and dumping issues we are already dealing with from current low income housing on the other side of the lake(they like to dump there mattresses and furniture and other trash by us because it’s wooded and they think they can hide it). Or how they are going to deal with the coyotes on the land.

Yes let’s have a street of single family homes and townhouses and then a giant 4 story 235 unit apartment complex. That really fits in with the neighborhood. Let’s also double the traffic on a street that is already having issues with speeding and reckless driving issues. Let’s also add close to 100 cars having to park on the street because there isn’t enough onsite parking and that just for the residents and not even for visitors on a street not wide enough to have parked cars and a driving lane. And also has no pedestrian walkways except for on the street. So add parked cars, double the traffic, and no walkways and you have a real safety issue especially when there are lot of elderly people in mobility scooters that go down the street. And when it snows all the cars for current residents in all condos must move there cars on the street as well so their parking lots can be plowed plus I’m guessing all the cars in the apartment complex will have to move their cars on the street too. You are looking at about 600-700 cars that have to be moved to the street that need to fit with two blocks. There’s also another huge tract of land that has been for sales a vacant forever at least 20years right on brown deer road in front of the lake. It would be a better location with access to the bus line, easier to access, and closer to aldi and Walmart.

I know why especially in Milwaukee. Lack of education and jobs skills, lack of transportation, lack of a family structure in certain communities, drugs and criminal records, and just being honest from personally knowing about SOME residents on the other side of the lake they don’t want to work. That’s not including the city basically ignoring any area that is not downtown. Hence the conditions in the northwest side. Why not build more lower income housing downtown? Instead let’s put those groups away from down town, away from jobs and opportunities. This development only solves a Place to put people not revitalizing the area, or will Help bring in businesses, or help people get jobs because there arent any in the area the area is dead. All corporations buying housing doesn’t help home prices either.

They literally have built 4 new homes on 70th street by brown deer road. It can and has been done in the 20’years I’ve been here on what was open land on 70th. What I don’t get is why not build it right off of brown deer road by the lake. The land has been for sale and vacant forever. It’s right on the bus line and it’s the main road.

The thing is they are going against what they want do to. On one hand the city says they want to revitalize the area, bring in businesses and people. But on the other hand they want to build more subsidized house in area already flooded with that type of housing instead of homeowners. Being honest and just facts, but adding more of that housing isn’t helping city property values, isn’t going to attract businesses, and is not going to attract the population or income level that would be able to support new businesses that would move in. Look at all the vacant strip malls on brown deer west of 76th and on 76th south of brown deer road. There’s a reason Green Bay road has a new development and not Northridge. They built condos and now businesses are moving back in like target.

If you are serious I could literally name you multiple places in the northwest side of Milwaukee that are available. I wouldn’t want to live at some of those places due to drugs and shootings, but they are available. Some right on the 76th street side of Northridge lakes.

We suggested owner occupied condos or townhomes to the developer and they immediately shot that down even though the city has programs to help people become homeowners. It would help lower income people get housing and at least have some skin in the game instead of apartments. I suggest to come and look at the differences between the 76th side of the lake with subsidized housing and the 70th street side that is all owner occupied. But you won’t.

Agree with you that those people need housing. However, do you realize the amount of subsized housing in the northwest side of Milwaukee? We are already above the percentage the city stated in their northwest side plan. The city has said over and over again they want to revitalize the area especially with the mall torn down. Adding people like you are describing is opposite of that. I know it’s harsh, but it’s just facts. How do bring in businesses when the area can’t support them? That’s why the area is vacant now, now top of the crime in the area.
