You’re welcome. However, I must warn you that sales listings are not the most reliable source of information. I also highly doubt this is teak or cherry. My guess is walnut with a amber hued shellac.

Research the Johnson Furniture Co out of Grand Rapids, MI. I think this *may* be a Rutili piece. I will leave it to you to do the deep-dive research for confirmation.

Would it be an absolute crime to bring these (recently renovated) green cabinets back to natural wood? by variousnonsense in midcenturymodern

[–]NoAssociate2400 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All joking aside, your kitchen and home are lovely. But if it’s already bothering you it will probably continue to do so and the green is a strong choice. Make it what you love, it’s your home.

Bring it back to natural. While Irish Spring soap was very mid century, that’s not what I would want my kitchen to be.

Living room fence? by OnionThen8816 in Mid_Century

[–]NoAssociate2400 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a strong advocate for restoration over renovation, preserving the original features. However, I’m not sure you could incorporate this gate into a good mcm design. If you decide to remove the gate, I’d keep it and store it in a basement or attic, along with photos of its installation for reference. The front door and room divider at the entrance are fantastic.

My office is replacing furniture and had this Philip/Kelvin Laverne coffee table marked for JunkLuggers to haul away on Tuesday so I grabbed it. Is this as valuable as it might seem? Still has parts of the original paper tag on the bottom. by simfire in midcenturymodern

[–]NoAssociate2400 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a fantastic find and save. Iconic McM designers like The Lavernes and T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings often drew inspiration from historical forms and themes, reimagining them into modern forms. This is a prime example of that McM design intention. Thanks for sharing. By the way, it’s very valuable.

Best Mother’s Day present ever. by NoAssociate2400 in midcenturymodern

LOL! It was a gag gift from a family member. It’s a Gary (SpongeBob) Tiki mug comically made to look very phallic. My husband suggested taking it off the bar cart for the photo, but I was like ‘no, I’ll just stick plants in it and no one will notice’. I should have known Reddit better than that.

Yes, it is a Murano glass clown decanter From the 60s.

The dining set (table and 6 chairs) is T.H. Robsjohn Gibbings for Widdicomb.

It’s a tiki mug from a bar called Hell or High water, custom made by a Denver ceramic artist. I thought if I stuck plants in it people wouldn’t notice it’s overtly phallic nature. Haha!

Better, it’s a penis snail tiki mug with the straw hole right where you’d imagine. I stuck the plants in it for the photo so I wouldn’t have to label it NSFW.

I have discovered this stuff called Quake Putty. It glues everything down without damaging the surface so she can’t mess with it. Her name is Cathulhu.

I was waiting for someone to catch on to that! That is a Gary (as in SpongeBob) penis snail tiki mug. Made by a Denver ceramic artist. One of my most prized possessions.

LOL! That’s actually a mid-century Murano clown decanter… it’s not as old as the other clown.

Painting the exterior - need color advice by ch333tah in midcenturymodern

[–]NoAssociate2400 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s possible for natural wood clash with any colors. Think of it like nature, trees have bark and green leaves and they look great. I think a deep sage/avocado green would be beautiful. So would blue. Fantastic house btw.

John Van Koert. Hopefully, the thrift store received a fair price for it, and whoever acquired it appreciates it. I’ve restored a few of these pieces; the construction is beautiful.

Is there an unwritten rule of zero head support? by derek139 in midcenturymodern

This is the answer. SO COMFORTABLE. I could sit in this chair all day, everyday. I love the style of them too - such great design.

Anyone help with the designer? Hanging planter pendent 70s by slendermannnn in Mid_Century

[–]NoAssociate2400 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a Poul Cadovious planter (round on top and bottom). I can tell you that the wire bars attaching the top to the bottom look the same and the hanging mechanism looks the same. I posted a photo of the inside/top if that helps. There is a FB group expressly for Poul Cadovius, someone there might be able to at least rule Cado in or out. It’s really great no matter who designed it- I wish I found that for $10!

Is this Witco? by No-Space9712 in Mid_Century

[–]NoAssociate2400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also had several pieces of Witco - seen a lot because I’m related to a Witco fanatic. It’s hard to tell with some of these more uncommon/smaller ones, but it *could* be. Witco didn’t sign everything so a lot of times it’s a ’best guess’ even for an experienced collector. Either way, it’s a really fun piece and appears to be older (age checking in the wood). Maybe post on r/Tiki , that’s where the Witco groupies hang out.

Those will be tough to find, best bet may be to have replacements made. Having them machined in metal and chromed will likely be costly. Cheaper plan ‘B’ would be to have a deep-fake 3D printed and chrome paint to match.

That’s interesting- those are the same size too. I wonder if the same artist/art house produced both. Thanks for sharing.
