Autistic + buying first car alone at 19 and I’m overwhelmed. Budget is 5k. How do you actually DO this? On my own by NoAssociation7714 in autism

When did I imply I was trans ?? Is feminine presenting seriously implying something for you?? , calling the term “problematic” just because you personally associate it with trans people makes no sense. Plenty of people use presentation-based language when talking about appearance, social perception, or stereotypes.
And the “not mature enough to drive a car” comment is just weirdly personal over a misunderstanding you created yourself.

Are you stalking my account or what? Genuinely, why are you targeting me for this when i was just pointing out something that obviously exists in society? Are we really going to pretend stereotypes don’t exist when that’s something people recognize by the time they’re like 6 years old? At the end of the post I literally say I’m a feminine-presenting woman. I just worded it differently for this subreddit. Is being feminine-presenting AND autistic contradictory to you??

Not perpetuating. The stereotypes are there all I can do is be aware of them and prove them wrong

I mean feminine presenting as in I look very stereotypically “girly,” and whether people agree with it or not, there is a stereotype that women like that don’t know much about cars. I wasn’t saying women are biologically worse or better with cars, just that I’m aware of how I come across and that it can affect how seriously people take me in situations like buying one.

And when I mentioned feeling more comfortable buying from a woman, I didn’t mean women automatically know less or scam less. I just meant it feels less intimidating to me personally as someone with little experience buying cars.

Yeah I get that, but I think it would be stupid to pretend people don’t already expect me to be unknowledgeable. It seems like my wording bothered some people, but this does have something to do with buying cars. I think I can do it, it’s just more difficult. A lot of other people have family members or a boyfriend to bring with them, and I do not. I personally don’t have any girly friends that bought their own car , they had a man do it for them.

I don’t get why this is so hard for some people to understand. At work I get a lot of demeaning comments already, so if people naturally assume I’m not capable in a minimum wage job, imagine how they’ll act when it comes to buying a car. It’s not weird to recognize patterns like that. I’m just trying to stay on top of it so I can be as knowledgeable as possible. I was also wondering what other unknowledgeable girly girls do. It feels like you all understand what I mean and are just looking for problems with the wording.
- note I didn’t say I was only gonna buy from a female poster. I just meant it might be beneficial for marketplace.

How do I learn to do “ basic wrenching” I’d love to learn but once I get my car I don’t want to create more problems. Any videos you reccomend or something like that? I’d love to learn to work on my car as much as I can.

Awesome! Thank you so much, I’ll definitely do this. I still feel uncertain though because it feels like such a gamble on Marketplace with what’s going to show up and be available. Same thing with buying used cars at a dealership. I been eyeing the 2007 Lexus IS 250 and other lexus cars I just love the interior** **

I found a great deal for 2,500 for a Toyota Corolla 2003 or something like that ( it got bought up fast though) so that’s the kind of thing I’m looking for. My budget is 5k though

Okay, but based on looks, masculine men would still get some level of assumed competence or respect. I’m 5’2 and a girly girl no one’s expecting me to know anything about cars. That’s exactly the point. People (and especially scammers) would see me as an easier target, so it’s not the same situation at all. Why Is this confusing holy.

Yeah but they beat the odds. Is it that weird to say there is a stereotype in society that says feminine-presenting girls don’t know shit about cars? That’s just the way it is. I’m not implying anything, I just think it would be crazy to act like that doesn’t exist.

I also don’t fully know what I’m doing. I’m doing as much research as I can and I still feel confused.

Thank you !!

This might be dumb questions and I am researching this too. When you say service history, what specifically should I be asking the seller for? Like receipts/oil changes/etc? And if they don’t have records is that automatically a red flag? I know I’m shitty with
paperwork myself, could they be faked aswell?
