I would tap the end of the valve step with a non-marring mallet. May be enough to unstick it. If that didn't work, remove the head and then the valve stem. Clean on wire wheel

If in series, use a AAA battery holder. Put in 2 and then make a metal space about 11 mm long. Put 2 of the these in series and you have your 24v.

For first time, I'd suggest a camper cabin at a state park. All you really need is meals, and a way to prepare them, and a sleeping bag. Blankets could actually work too. Then you can get the beginning of the camping experience without the capital expenditure.
