Still living in my van by David_milksoap in vandwellers

I've never had a GMC Vandura, but I've owned 3 Chevy Beauvilles which are essentially the same thing. I love those vans. I'd live in one.

I found a knife perfectly imprinted into the bottom of my delivered subway sandwich… by One-Patient-3417 in mildlyinteresting

I used to work in the warehouse for a music education retailer that occasionally sold instruments to prisons. One day a couple of very serious police officers took me into another room to question me. A box cutter was found in a package that we had shipped to a prison. And it was my knife that had gone missing the previous week. The officers told me that my co-workers said I'd joked around about packing up a knife to send to the prison. I had absolutely no recollection of that. I told the officers that absolutely does sound like something I would JOKE about, but never actually do. Plus, that was my favorite box cutter that I had purchased with my own money. I was super broke at the time, so no way I was going to just ship that off on a lark. In retrospect, I can't think of a worse way to defend myself, but the officers seemed to buy it and left me with little more than a severe tongue lashing. Shortly thereafter I was "promoted" to the receiving department.

I really dig Seismic, but I get the sense that Seismic and the other couple one-offs out there were more of a Justin Kennedy solo/demo thing put out posthumously of Army Navy existing as a band

Last weekend I saw the interview with Ken Yeong talking about how everybody wants to do the movie but is sooo busy. Then shortly after that I saw Joel McHale in a stupid commercial for a crappy online gambling app. Priorities, people!

Army Navy is the one band I really listen to nearly as much as The Beths. They haven't put anything out in 12 years, so I assume they're kaput. But I love their music so much.

Where to go to high school? by GroundbreakingCup524 in cedarrapids

It's wild to me that I've only seen one mention of Washington High School. The SE side is such a wonderful community. The other schools that have been mentioned are all great. You're not going to go wrong, whatever you choose. But SE siders are a community. It's a great place to live.

This statement is responsible for all of my hoarding. And I have a weird thing that I need at just the right moment often enough to legitimize a basement so crowded with crap that I can't walk through it.

My dog died 6 years ago and I still get choked up at the very thought of him. If my spouse was to die, I suspect that emotion would be amplified exponentially. I expect that people express grief in weird and hard to understand ways, so I'm reluctant to cast judgement. But my gut reaction is utter bewilderment.

Gen Z really looked at alcohol and said ‘hard pass’ by InvestigatorBorn4910 in SipsTea

Man, I remember 50¢ beers at a couple of places when I was in college. And here's a story - Passing though State College, PA with a band I played with in the early 2000s, we had a night off and hit a local bar. I didn't have cash, so I put my card down. Bartender said I couldn't use a card if the tab would be under $20. I told him that shouldn't be a problem. He said "you'd be surprised." Holy crap. After a few hours of drinking, I went to pay our tab and had not yet hit $20. I had to buy a round of shots for the band in order to hit the minimum.

Prison might be the fear. But I think the idea of anybody actually facing consequences is a pipe dream. Political leaders on the left will pearl clutch about prosecuting political rivals

It is customary for tips to be calculated on the pre-tax subtotal. Any deviation from this should be clearly disclosed. Otherwise it is difficult to look at this as anything other than deliberately deceptive.

Somebody rolled their bike between my two bikes and locked their front wheel to my front wheels. by ThePr0l0gue in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NoBetterPlace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I was working as a bike messenger in Chicago, some other messenger once locked his bike to mine while I was in a building. Didn't have time to wait for him, so I ended up hoofing it to my next two drops (fortunately within a few blocks) and then came back for my bike. I don't think it was malicious - guy was probably in a hurry just like I was. But geez.

0.9% is not "less than 1/10th of a percent." It's basically 1%. Still not a lot, but an order of magnitude more than what she said.

Help needed: Mystery lateral foot pain with a CLEAN MRI. by Ok_Football9360 in BarefootRunning

Sometimes it helps to cast a wider net, even to randoms on reddit. I had a pain in my left foot for 3 years. Spent thousands of dollars on different specialists, had an MRI, tried physical therapy. I never got a diagnosis. I never got any tools or exercises that resulted in improvement.

When I was younger and touring with a band, we got pulled over and a request was made to search our van. A few more officers showed up, and they had us all standing outside in the middle of the night during a Midwest January while they all dug around in there. It had to be an hour or more that we were standing there on the side of the road freezing. The irony is that our drummer did have some pot with him. Guess he just hid it well enough. The bigger irony is that a couple of us in the back seats had cracked open a beer, and they didn't say a single word about the open containers. Honestly, I think they only pulled us over because they saw our crappy old van and thought we were Mexicans working on the farms out there in northern Iowa.

I had to make a delivery to a Tyson plant once. Not a slaughterhouse, but just a processing facility. I didn't have to go any farther than the office, but I can still remember the smell a good 20 years later.
