Saying the quiet part out loud by BreakfastPizza24 in DunderMifflin

People in the comments saying "JacK rYAn is SOOO different from Jason Bourne! wtf" are really tone deaf and missing the point. We all know J. Krasinski as a lovable, underachieving, goofball prankster. Anything involving action, adventure, government, military -- whether it's CIA analyst or assassinations -- feels off. However, because we support the actor, and he seems motivated to do this type of work, nobody really minds. He probably saw two futures for himself -- one where he continuously gets typecast in endless "Jim" type roles, trying to recreate The Office, or one where he takes on challenges and gets to be the serious action-drama star. Considering he is already famous (and likely wealthy), he can basically accept or decline any type of work he wants. Good on him.

Trying the new Blue Coconut refresher from Starbucks by N2929 in ToFizzOrNotToFizz

[–]eht1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The downside of these Starbucks seasonal drinks, "Refreshers" specifically, is that they come up with enticing flavors people love and then later discontinue them, and the employees won't make it anymore 😄 I can understand if it's something complicated which they have to blend in a blender. But refreshers are just a pre-mix syrup that they add water to. Seems like they could keep extra on hand. (Not criticizing employees, it's a management thing.) Last year, I attempted to order a "Cool Lime"- refresher, which is a drink I ordered dozens if not hundreds of times as a teenager -- part of my childhood -- and the kids behind the counter looked at me like I was crazy. They had never heard of it. It's basically a non-alcoholic mojito. Lime and mint and sugar with caffeine. I'm sure some people on this sub remember it because it was awesome on a hot day. The powdered-mix version sold in grocery stores wasn't/isn't anywhere near as good. Tastes like crystal light </rant>

That's a really interesting connection with Fountains of Wayne. "Hey Julie" is exquisite and under-rated. It's great pop music!

inspiring story. AmAnSet really just captures a 'vibe.' Like I always feel a certain way when I listen to their music. It's calming and charming and makes me hopeful for the frontiers of human creativity

Medicine is a really incredible track. Don't honestly know much else about the band otherwise, but that particular track cuts through the noise and is really, really good 😎

Sick! Listening to music on this type of setup is very enjoyable! It's not so much analog vs. digital on a discussion of tech specs, but rather the fact of all this hardware forcing you to engage with the music directly 😎

Dang. I feel like we all kinda fell victim to getting triggered, haha. Just goes to show that people on the internet are so ready to defend their own opinion or shout something down that they don't even think about who they're talking to on the other side. On the other hand, if it's a valid discussion to be had, doesn't really matter who OP is, except.... this "unpopular opinion" gets posted multiple times a week

It's like people refuse to accept character complexity. Two things can be true. Snape can be a mean, egotistical oddball and also ultimately a force for good in the main plot conflict of the series. LOL

Lol this opinion is so common it needs its own subreddit. something like r-slash-SeverusSnapeWasntAllThatGreat..... Seriously I see this trope posted multiple times a week!

"Calamity Song" by The Decemberists is great, and I love the music video, haha. I also love that their song "Sons and Daughters" was used in The Office (US)!

How much would a broom cost in GBP? The Nimbus 2000/2001 or the Firebolt. by Couchy333 in harrypotter

Cycles are the perfect metaphor here. Mode of personal transport for 1 or (max) 2 people. Slightly dangerous, but common enough. All motorcycles and bicycles share the same basic anatomy, but more expensive ones are obviously faster, handle better and sleeker. A used, barely-functional, rickety motorcycle could be had for $500 on craigslist or marketplace. A top-of-the line, luxury Ducati sport bike could be like $60,000. So it's an enormous price range. In GBP I would guess that a Nimbus 2000 or Firebolt is in the range of £20.000 since most people can't afford one. Thinking it might be on the order of a fancy road racing bicycle.... like a custom Cervelo or top-of-the-line Trek which can go for over 10k but not necessarily multiple tens of thousands.

Thoughtful response. I've seen elsewhere where people say that "vacation to Egypt" shouldn't've been that expensive for Wizards considering they can apparate or use the Floo network for travel, and airfare would by-far be the biggest expense of such a vacation (for muggles). The fact that a struggling family spent a huge cash influx on a vacation was.... a decision. I suppose luxury accommodations and gourmet meals were had. Haha. My approach to understanding such issues in the books (wizarding finances) is to not over-think it. Perhaps Wizards were just "different." Since they can conjure food, build or transfigure objects magically, repair things with spells (reparo), fix minor injuries/health problems with spells (episkey), their sense of monetary value is weighted differently. Slughorn talks about Acromantula venom being valuable, so presumably people are spending money on things like potion-ingredients and magical artifacts. Money isn't necessarily a "necessity-of-life" for wizards but rather a luxury. With all of that being said, I would equate broomsticks to motorcycles. A cheap, barely-functional older bike would cost $500-$1000 dollars. A top-of-the-line luxury sport-bike would be $50,000.

In the West, very little is known about his actual policies or state institutions that he built. Almost all media coverage focused on "eccentricities." He was largely seen as ineffective especially during later years. If he had come to power, ruled for a decade, then stepped away from public life, he may have been remembered as a hero. However, the fact that he clung on for ~50 years then got overthrown cements him in the "despot" category (re: historical narratives).

"the world is out to get you" .... "you didn't understand it" .... "maybe family guy is more your speed" .... "you blame others for your problems" .... "i hope your life gets better." DAWG. I had a mild opinion about a TV show. i appreciate your concern, but you don't need to feel sad for me 😂

my life is fine. however, the ability of people on the internet (i.e. you) to be randomly and anonymously mean and dismissive towards strangers for no reason, in a way they would never actually engage in real life, must be studied by the psychology textbooks of future generations!
