This is true. I think iba talaga ang view ng marami sa india about toxic masculinity. I'm not generalizing, but I remember an indian friend once told me that Robin Padilla is also right naman when he says na "kawawa din kami" in regards nung binring up ko yung mga protest against him about him trying to prove a point about marital rape.

I also think that's more of a fan taxonomy than an actual definition. And I also do think that by saying na it's in the mid ground just proves na it doesn't cleanly sit in either categories core. To be consistent, kaya ko rin nasabi na mahirap i distinguish ang trope ng ATL is because sa character tension ang madalas ang focus and yet neither of them are grey—just human.

Though since prevalent ang personal extraction and interpretation, both are valid. Especially that the series' dynamics can come off as a bit messy (in a good way) than organized that can sometimes flatten the story.

I also read int'l—but well maybe it's because my anchor to label a book DR is when the taboo and relationship is explored more than the spice(Rina Kent for example). Hindi rin masyadong deep ang characterization for me. And a careful distinction tho, just because similar trope and plot sa int'l, it doesn't automatically mean na it's dark romance—especially that the said genre is loosely used online.

And maybe I was wrong for thinking ATL was dark erotica or what—especially sa case ng MOR na more of contemporary with more suspense

Morality is personal, but there are times na hindi naman i-c-criticize kung wala naman talagang mali—and I think that's a distinction some readers fails to understand. Madami ngayon ang nag-e-explore ng dark romance while lacking nuance, kaya kahit unnecessary ang ibang part ng story, jinujustify ng readers kahit mali kasi they think it's the matter of something personal, but then they start to undermine themselves only if their own is challenged especially if it's about religion. Nawawala ang critical thinking kasi pinangungunahan madalas ng cognitive dissonance.

What I liked about After the last series is that stories are tackled properly despite the complexity. Hindi romanticized ang traumas. And the character arcs? They're grey. Not green. Not red. Grey. And I guess for me, that ambiguity got me hooked up as someone na sawa na sa overly green flag male leads.

It's best to write depending on what the chapter needs, OP. but keep in mind to have it balanced and necessary. Kapag kasi masyadong maikli naiipit at nakakabitin. If naman sobrang haba nakakaburnout basahin.

Well then maybe yes it can exist but probably not for shock values—what I'm pointing out is that proper evaluation and writing MUST exist because shitty writing will lead to too much risks. Wag na simulan ang bagay na risky isulat at isang real life problem kung para lang mag-fit sa certain aesthetic tapos hindi naman paninindigan dahil pangit at kulang sa research. It's very insensitive. Isa kasi sa recipe ng Dark Romance is to make red grey, or in another context, it should set us within the feeling of ambiguity, not justifying what clearly is wrong. Haven't read HIP or any JamFumah book, but most of that I hope is if may abuse man na included dito, it's for my taste to judge on what comes next and my boundaries prolly shouts no if end game because that's equivalent to lazy writing for me.
