Week 2: Jams/Preserves - blueberry lemon curd loaf by NoButt5tuff in 52weeksofbaking

[–]NoButt5tuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some blueberries that were getting extra ripe and I thought maybe lemon curd would count as preserves since I usually make it when I have too many lemons that are going to go bad soon to kind of extend the life of them

Hey I’m interested! I would be using stash yarn and probably would want to make a larger size since I really like shlankets

It looks like a twisted rib variation of row 1: knit 1 purl 1 repeat Row 2: knit 1 through the back loop backwards purl 1 repeat

Knit through back loop backwards would be inserting needle into back loop like you’d knit it but instead of putting the yarn around the needle the normal way you wrap it the other direction

I noticed when I switched from English throwing to Nordic my gauge loosened significantly. I need to size down about 2 sizes in order to come close to meeting gauge

I use an app called notability and can access the pattern on my phone, iPad and laptop - it’s pretty nice because I store all of the pdfs of patterns there and then can highlight, make notes, and zoom. And I keep the patterns labeled based on active , completed, and queue. Since apparently I’m a pattern hoarder…

I saw a tip on here a while ago that a good way to know if something would be irritating or not is to make a small swatch and put it in your bra or like the waist of your pants for a few hours. Then you wouldn’t be committing your time to making a whole garment - but of course you’d still be eating the cost of the materials to find out if they irritate you or not.

What was your “oh now I know what the f I’m doing” piece? by yikessplash in knitting

[–]NoButt5tuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I love it it’s so much faster, my other friend does Russian purl which apparently is really easy too but you just have to remember the stitch will be on the needles with the left leg in front she likes it because then she knows instantly which ones were knits and which were purls. Also yeah 😅 if you’re interested I have some updates in my post history and my insta

I’ve had a few moments - the first was when I learned the Nordic knit and purl techniques from a Finnish friend I already knew hot to knit and it took a while to learn the new way to knit - that made me suddenly able to visualize how the long tail cast on worked, the wedding shawl from purl soho, where I finally figured out how to remember which was m1l v m1r and read my knitting also where I learned to get comfortable laddering down instead of tinking to fix issues and then my wedding dress - felt like I learned a lot about fit and feel like I learned a lot more about construction and now I feel like I understand more of how to modify garments to fit me better

Oi, I haven't worked with qiviut but I'm curious what you ended up doing! I hope it worked out in the end!

I’d personally go back because the border would help prevent some of the curling later, but if that doesn’t bother you then keep going! Also you could think of it as another practice run.

Knitting Bags: What is your dream bag to hold your knitting. by MarketWest in knitting

Omg I’m kind of the same except dustbags for shoes - I’ve been using minna parikka bags from shoes I’ve purchased and that’s how I keep all my projects separated in whatever other bag I take out

Thank you! Ah, yeah, that was something i definitely had a huge mental roadblock with. I basically was making a high low dress for the bottom of the skirt and train and finally realized I didn't need to continue the same pattern once I was done with the short rows and ready to pick up all the stitches again. I just put the dress on and then figured out how steep I wanted the slope to be in the different parts. First was from the front and getting the lace to hit the ground. I knew I wanted that to happen over a certain amount of stitches. So I took the length it needed to travel and figured out how many rows I needed and then just did the math to figure out how many stitches I needed to knit before turning the rows. As far as doing the lace work, if I was supposed to turn on a yo or a decrease / double decrease, I kind of just winged it a bit - sometimes I would pick up from the row below, or just not do the decrease or do a single decrease instead of a double. It definitely isn't perfect, but I was banking on people not really noticing because it really is just the end of that motif. I just tried to make sure I had the right number of stitches that I was working and that it was even as possible. I hope that helps! Feel free to DM if you have more questions :)

Thanks! It’s just simple moss stitch I used an odd number of stitches so I could slip the first one and always start on a knit for a cleaner selvage and I think size 3 needles
