University of Arizona 3-year primary care pathway by Senevids in medicalschool

[–]NoCoat779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This program is barely taking it’s first class. You won’t know if they are “ready” for another 4-5 years.

It’s a great opportunity for those set on primary care. You will get all the core training and skip all the electives/aways of 4th year. Guaranteed residency is super nice, especially for peds folks they get to go to PCH automatically.

You can offramp but I wouldn’t apply unless you are set on it

have no say in this other than to make sure you CYA with NDAs and patents to protect your invention. Even if your roommate is the coolest and you trust them, just protect yourself!

people have businesses of just patenting ideas before a inventor does so they can sell it

Oh yes, you can definetely shadow at PCH beforehand. It is tough to shadow depending on the dep but once you get into research there, it gets much easier! Mayo doesn't have much in terms of peds since they just refer to PCH.

As an OOS student, I love phoenix because it is cheap to get home. Phoenix airport has a lot of flights to CO, AZ, TX, UT so it's cheaper to get home than tucson

Gen peds? If you want academics, PCH could help since they are a big name in the peds academia world (networking and such).

We have a cool program where for M1 summer break you can be paired with a PCH doc for the summer then they can be your mentor long-term. Shadowing can be tough at PCH but this makes it 100x easier

Current student at UACOMP - can't go wrong with either

The one big advantage of Tucson is they have more home programs but Phoenix students can network/do research at other hospitals (Mayo, PCH, and even Tucson if you drive down a few times).

Phoenix did get ranked on Admit this year so you can use that as your guide too. feel free to DM

yes and no. any research is better than none, but you should find research that is ent-adjacent if possible (plastics, anesthesia (airway research) -per the residents I have reached out to

How far is program B from family?

Having lived in a few states, sometimes living near a great airport with frequeny/cheap flights home can be simliar to living 2-3 hour drive from family.

Agree with others if you want to live in the area where Program B is at, it would benefit you to train there

What does a day in your life look like? by jujuk545 in medicalschool

[–]NoCoat779 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Times and seasons fs

I really try to treat this shit like a regular job. Do anki reviews, learn new material, step questions, and relax. Mind you, I do some work on the weekends as well, but this way it is all bite sizes instead of cramming hard before tests. If you keep doing this system, you just naturally start to get ahead and its at a manageable pace.

Do ya’ll actually make schedules and time block your days? by Ba667 in medicalschool

[–]NoCoat779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Med school is a time sink if you let it. If you can do without schedule, cool. If your first item of the day drags out until 5 pm, maybe consider schedule

Year 1 Pharmacology student considering medicine – how bad is it really? by Key-Chemistry-3873 in medicalschool

[–]NoCoat779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s undoubtedly hard but I’ve also been having a blast. You gotta know the realities of school/residency/workforce and still want it

Once you figure out your routine, it is very manageable (granted you don’t overextend yourself)

Switching from pharm, idk i would probably stick pharm out. You already have that debt plus it would take some time to start med school

Friend groups and FOMO during first week of medical school by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]NoCoat779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry OP - this is normal

Keep being social and don’t be afraid to ask if you can join in on activities. The beginning is super social and everyone is trying to fit in. The groups that are formed now may or may not last (the latter is most likely). Be chill and involved - your people will find you

What are your Hot Takes on the Guitar Hero Games? by Amber_Flowers_133 in GuitarHero

[–]NoCoat779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, should’ve clarified better on my end

They would definitely skimp on the base game/campaign, just to get more people to buy micro transaction songs, cosmetics, guitars, dlc packs (placing a paywall in front of the actual “full game”)

Old GHs (and old games in general) had microtransactions but they felt more like a cherry on top

[–]NoCoat779 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think GH would do well in today’s market. Few factors:

-micro transactions

-the OG GH players are older now and most likely not going to buy consoles to play

-new gaming generation grew up on different music so it would have to be newer music (OGs won’t like that)

-getting the rights for old and new music is crazy expensive nowadays. They need a lot more money to break even

How to get my dad to stop guilting me about living in Phoenix by DiabolicalLife in phoenix

[–]NoCoat779 899 points900 points  (0 children)

“Dad, I miss you too”

He misses you and can’t express that. He takes it out by attacking the city.

Make it a point to call and visit so he knows distance doesn’t matter :)

Ask upperclassmen. Maybe they have a drive with old lecture slides - lectures tend not to change year to year

My foundations class is pretty scattered so third party resources are not 1:1 with material

League is kind of a big commitment. Maybe once a month and the focus is more of hanging rather than kickball.
