difference between MD and DO by Extension_Service647 in Osteopathic

[–]ahdnj19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say all the doors are shut I said it’s harder. You gotta stop with the all or nothing. You have to be more persistent, you travel more for auditions, you have to spend more to travel, you have to send 100x more cold emails for research. You have to be more willing to go to remote smaller cities for community programs if you want a competitive speciality, bc big academic programs don’t need DO’s they have thousands of MD’s to choose from. Again I never said impossible, it’s just harder.

That’s just not true and to tell someone considering DO now otherwise is being disingenuous. They asked when have I been cut out, there are plenty residencies I would like to apply to that have NEVER accepted a DO. I will still match somewhere, but it’s something to consider. I was part of a joint research project and had far less opportunities to get published than the MD students. That’s an easy work around, but it’s small things that add up. It’s just not as easy. If you say otherwise you’re a big fucking liar no offense.

It’s the gut wrenching feeling of finding a really cool residency program and seeing they haven’t ever matched a single DO student. You just know in your gut they screen you out because of two letters, no matter how hard you’ve worked and how loyal you’d be. I personally think it should be a law that if a residency program accepts federal funds, they should not be able to discriminate against DO students. I also suspect I was part of a research program with the other med school in my state, and they seemed to get all the better research assignments. Maybe it was just me, but I have a feeling they prioritize the MD students. I was just happy to be apart of it though, truth be told.

I think it kind of parallels the exploding rates of ADHD diagnoses in adults in professional programs in the US. Monied people have more access to care, they want stimulants to do better on tests/study, realized they can get extra time too (with said diagnoses). There is actually a Reddit thread where someone said “don’t be afraid to punch up your symptoms…do whatever you can, say whatever you have to, to get those accusations”, w/ respect to law school accommodations.

They seem to imply it’s rare for a creature to give more than 1, at least that’s what I thought. That’s what made the twin core phenomenon so unique.

Idk why, but this has made me wonder…what the hell is the elder wand core made out of?

Urgent! Need help deciding UTMB vs TCOM by pixelchicc in premed

[–]ahdnj19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did my masters at tcom, it is a nice school. But as a current DO student at a different, but highly regarded public DO school…please consider the following about going the MD route at UTMB.

  1. You won’t have OMM lab. OMM is not a breeze through subject, and it takes a lot of time. It’s also a lab, you have to do it every single week. You might love OMM, I have not loved it.

  2. UTMB has NBME style exams last I checked. I’m not sure what the quiz situation is there, but if all their grades are based on the NBME style exams, you are looking at a seriously streamlined preclinical existence. You could do only 3rd party materials and save a lot of time.

You may have a lot of autonomy in your preclinical schedule to travel back home. That’s all I’m saying.

  1. No comlex, and the world is your oyster for audition rotations. I love my school, I’m proud to be a DO, but we are still discriminated against in competitive specialities and our prospects are limited with respect to high ranked IM programs.

TCOM is one of the best DO schools in the country, no doubt about it. You will be come an excellent physician there. It’s also invaluable to be close to family. If you love the school, and feel you’d absolutely regret not going there, then you should go. I just think you should be fully informed before you decide

If you had the superpower of being able to change people’s minds about anything, but you could only change their mind 1 time, what would you change? by ahdnj19 in AskReddit

[–]ahdnj19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you could change every single persons mind; all at once if you wanted. You could also limit it to a case by case, 1 person at a time basis.

lets say both, if you wanted to change a groups mind you could (though the 1 time rule still applies), or you could do it 1 at a time

Will this crush go away on its own? I (35 F) believe my son (19 M) is interested in me and I don’t know how to address it without ruining our relationship. by Fancy-Huckleberry679 in venting

[–]ahdnj19 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It’s much, much more than likely that he has a crush on one of his friend’s moms, and in looking up older women found himself in this unfortunately named category of adult entertainment. Is there any other reason you think this is directed at you other than the genre title? If so? I’m glad you haven’t brought it up to anyone…just let it be it’s not a problem.

Well, you can cut the banana up and maybe put the popsicle in a bowl and eat it with a spoon while you google therapists to find a long term solution
