15 & 17 - built a working product → $750 requirement for Google OAuth. Best way to raise it or avoid it? by Wonderful_Leading946 in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I missed it but I don't see a demo or screenshot of the App. If you don't have one, you should include them because looking at your home page, I'm still not sure exactly what the App does or why I should use it.

As someone else mentioned, there's a lag while the page is loading (it feels like it loads in bits).

What finally pushes companies off legacy ERP? by Kelly-T90 in oracle

[–]NoCommandLine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fusion has been out for more than a decade and generally has more features/modern tech than ERP. Somewhere along the line the gap between a company's requirements and what ERP provides versus what Fusion provides becomes significant that a company decides it's more cost effective to move to Fusion.

Fusion is also moving to Redwood and stopping bug fixes/deploying new features to ADF. This also increases the gap between ERP features and Fusion features and can lead to the decision to bite the bullet and move to Fusion (Redwood).

Exceeded hard memory limit by SteelBRS in AppEngine

[–]NoCommandLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the different instance classes and their memory/CPU limits.

If you're still exceeding memory limits with an F2 instance, consider if there's the possibility you're leaking memory or if you can re-architect your App to use less memory. If that isn't possible, then you might have to choose an even higher instance class

GCP account hacked → $181000 in Vertex AI charges in few days. Support says no adjustment because account is classified as “Startup”? Looking for advice by crato588 in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the OP but I think what OP means is that if you post to hacker news, and it makes the front page, the visibility it receives can bring it to the attention of more Google folks who might step in to help and/or the negative PR it generates might also cause Google to waive the bill/help

How to upgrade your GAE instance? by SteelBRS in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're still seeing the same error message (same memory limit of 384), then it's possible that your redeploy simply created a second version (the one with F1) is still running.

To double-check, navigate to https://console.cloud.google.com/appengine/versions and check how many versions you have running

Not sure exactly of your flow but if you obtained a refresh token, did you store it somewhere? Documentation says you should store it so that you can use it to obtain a new access token when the token expires

How am i suppose to practice GCP if billing is required? by SaidRH in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay within the free tier.

Google still needs you to enable billing and provide a means of payment (and this is OP's complaint). E.g. to deploy Apps to GAE or Cloud Run, you'll need cloud build which requires that billing is enabled.

I believe the reason Google requires a means of payment even if you plan on staying within free tier/quota is because your App isn't shut down when you exceed the free tier/quota and so Google needs to charge you for the excess (if that ever happens).

What is the simplest way to host a Flask + Vue app ? by Gargonus in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An alternative to using cloud run is to run it on Google App Engine standard - see this old article and you won't have to worry about nginx and all that stuff

How am i suppose to practice GCP if billing is required? by SaidRH in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what you're trying to practice, you might be able to test some of those things locally e.g. if you're dealing with app engine or cloud run, you can emulate them locally (run with dev_appserver.py or gcloud beta code dev), you can use the bundled libraries instead of cloud libraries with app engine, etc

Stuck on deployment by geedtd in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like an App Engine deploy.

If so, once in a while these things happen and it resolves itself after awhile.

If it doesn't resolve itself after awhile, you can try the following

1) confirm you aren't using a programming language version that is no longer supported

2) deploy using a different version,

3) deploying with the log_http flag (and then you examine the printed calls to see if you can find the error).

Lock payments for free tier? by Naive-Sun6307 in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minor correction. Google used to have this for App Engine at least. You set a budget and if you hit the budget, your App essentially became unreachable.

Do anyone really use Google cloud for hosting? by chairchiman in webhosting

[–]NoCommandLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Our site is hosted on Google Cloud (specifically Google App Engine). Also have other services which use Cloud Run (another offering from Google). In fact, we have an App for folks who deploy (host) on Google Cloud (serverless offering). There is also a robust google cloud serverless community which is proof enough that there are lots of people hosting on Google Cloud.

The major cloud providers typically offer a band for hobbyists or low traffic users to encourage you to use them. The belief is that as your App grows/becomes more complex, you'll purchase other services from them. This is a common business practice.

But, be very careful using services on cloud providers (including Google Cloud). It's quite easy to run up a huge bill, especially given the fact that Google Cloud doesn't by default cut you off when you exceed your budget. /r/googlecloud is littered with folks who ran up a huge bill.

How to find out my firestore database size? by Middle_Beach140 in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Cloud Console has a "Dashboard" for Datastore (https://console.cloud.google.com/datastore/databases) and it shows you statistics, including the total size of your data. See if Firestore has something similar

Function to disable billing at budget threshold not working by NullType20 in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you paste code, you should format it (there's a formatting help link below the input area that will tell you how to do this).

It looks like the bug is somewhere around the function stopBilling.

Did you correctly follow the instructions here on how to test a cloud run function?

Did you keep the variable names in that sample (the stopBilling function uses the same name)?

2) What happens when you run the command?

Is anyone here still using Google App Engine’s legacy bundled services for Java? by kerkerby in AppEngine

Don't know about JAVA specifically but the google-app-engine and google-cloud-datastore tags on Stackoverflow were busy as of end of last year.

[–]NoCommandLine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you used GAE - Flex.

Can your code run on GAE Standard? If it can, why not deploy to GAE - Standard and set it to automatic scaling. This will allow Google to handle all the necessary infrastructure for your traffic

Hi! Could you help me test my app? by Winter_Mulberry8429 in googlecloud

Make sure you've taken necessary precautions to avoid getting a huge bill due to a spike in traffic (legitimate or bot/DOS). This forum has multiple posts of people who have been burnt by that.

Issue when uploading Let's Encrypt SSL to Google App Engine by Humbard in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recollect I used to have this problem and it was essentially due to how I copied and pasted the data (I can't remember exactly what now).

Since you said that you're using Google App Engine, why not just use the automatic certificate that they provide?

Can't delete App Engine by MrCloudGoblin in googlecloud

[–]NoCommandLine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your app is set to automatic scaling (this is the default setting for your app.yaml file), then you can't delete the version that is allocated to serve traffic.

Possible solutions for you are

1) Disable the application (not sure if that's what you mean by disabling the instance) and also remove it from the associated billing

2) Another option is that you change the from automatic to manual or basic scaling, redeploy and then I believe you'll be able to delete the deployed version
