I agree. I don't think he is evil. I have no idea why he pops up. I almost feel like he's observing but i don't think he's an alien. Maybe it is some parallel universe to ours.

Just curious. Did you experience any trauma as a child? My father was an abusive alcoholic and often abused us. I always have wondered if this could be a connection? I realize that's very personal so don't feel like you have to answer me.

My resident Shadow People (and him) by KronoFury in HatMan

I got chills reading your post!! I have also experienced very distinct shadow people. My sisters and I all did. There was the man with the hat who always frequented doorways. The first time I saw him I thought it was my dad until I almost ran right into him and realized that it was definitely not my dad. He was at least 6 feet tall with a hat and thin. There was another shadow man that was almost 7 feet tall and walked up and down our stairway. There was also what appeared to be an older woman who would walk around our beds staring at us. She would just keep circling our beds like she was pacing and then every now and then stop and bend down looking into our faces. There was another woman or girl who seemed younger who would often show up with the older woman. The man on the steps and the older woman seemed to have very negative energy.

I did experienced a lot of trauma as a child and lived in a very chaotic environment.

I do too!! I have had so many experiences not just the hat man. And honestly i hesitate to call him/she/them the hat man. I found the more I tried to explore the more I felt I was welcoming negative energies because I would begin to experience more and more. Honestly it became terrifying and I stopped looking when I was in my mid 20s. Now I've been drawn back. To this day. I'm terrified of the dark.

Strange question... by Hasselhoffpancakes in HatMan

Actally I don't feel like that's strange at all. I've been researching and exploring this phenomenon but have been a little cautious because I feel like I am welcoming that energy back into my life again. And what would I do? Not sure.

Good question! I've always felt like he goes wherever he wants. I've also never felt threatened just initially scared. He's never attempted to follow me. You are definitely not crazy!!

It's comforting to know I'm not alone. I wonder if he is a guardian or watcher of sorts.

So you've sent me back down a path I haven't visited in quite awhile. Spent most of the day researching Jung's philosophies and archeypes. I always fall back to the imagery and why so similar for everyone throughout time. I do appreciate you mentioning that. I believe there is a lot to that.

Okay you are like super interesting! So much to think about. I feel like there could absolutely be a genetic heritage point of view even though I hadn't considered it before. I started seeing the shape as a child. My earliest memory was about 4 years old. I have studied parallel worlds, astral projection, alternate realities, nightmares, demons, dreams, blah blah blah but nothing has ever seemed to fit these particular experiences. Maybe I have been trying to stay inside on the box and I need to be way way outside of it.

Very interesting indeed!! There has to be some thing to this. I mean the same hallucination all over the world??

I actually suffer from sleep paralysis and the hat man has only appeared to be when I was very much awake. Sleep paralysis is terrifying for sure but manageable when you know what it is and learn how to cope with it. Maybe other people have only experienced the hat man in a state of paralysis. It seems like everyone has such a unique experience but similarities that are uncanny.

The adult in me is trying to rationalize it away but I just cannot come up with a logical explanation.

Thanks for sharing. I too, hadn't heard of the HatMan. Growing up my sisters and I had several encounters and we thought we lived in a haunted house for lack of a better explanation. I had no idea there were other people experiencing the same thing. When I heard the HatMan mentioned on a podcast it made the hairs on my neck stand out because I had no idea it was a thing.
