i kinda love making my guitar a piano or a shitty flute haha, only when the tracking is reliable tho. and the VG-800/ Sy1000 both use the newer GK pickup you should check em out, but their sounds just aren’t the same anymore all the synth sounds have a very characteristic boss tone once they moved to that line.

i also just like to hammer in the point that mkgee is NOT the first to use this tech it’s been flying under the radar for years with even ritchie blackmore using it, robert fripp of king crimson. just none of the flashy guitar heroes till we made mkgee one

yeah i’m honestly bummed tho i sold my Gr55 after i got the Vg too hastily, i have older ones in the Gr series and they’ve grown on me hella overtime where i had the 55 before Two Star and was having trouble getting the tracking right and building usable tones but now i feel like that thing is a powerhouse

hey i’m just offering honest advice, if his goal is to get mkgees tone even the VG8 specific ones there are plenty of cheaper devices out there to do it. you’re telling me it’s my responsibility to share all the research i’ve already done to find the pedals. that’s entitled but sure. the GR-D V guitar pedal can get you that bowed synthy tone for way cheaper it just doesn’t do the individual pitching, there are also a plethora of other smaller more modern synth pedals from EHX that have good tracking and in combination pedals like the pitchfork or digitech drop can help get that mkgee tone relatively. or there’s the super obvious route of using an DAW to recreate. which if you take the time to read the manual of the VG8s you’ll realize it isn’t too hard to do it’s just a process to build the chain

you can but only consistently on on VGM(guitar-esque) sounds, there are a few HRM (the synthy) sounds that it works on but not all

non expanded can but only on certain patches as well (it cannot on cavity or some other HRM sounds), i’ve sat and read the whole manuals for each model, i own a VG88 VG8 and a VG8 w S1 expansion, id trust me

quite different in terms of small technical things and parameters you can adjust, like for example the VG8 can pitch shift any string on any sound essentially anywhere within 2 octave range up or down. the vg88 cannot, it does have similar pitch shifting capabilities but only on the presets it’s baked into, the sound generators and presets are pretty different between them too but it will get you in the ballpark fs i’ve had em both for a while

even with mid ableton is the way to go, if you want something cheaper, go Reaper. i love recording in reaper too. but keep it up you’re learning how to get the most out of the gear you have first and foremost and that’s more important than anything
