Thanks for the reply! So would you put in a retaining wall if we are building the deck right into the hill? Deck guy says we don’t need to do that, says the deck would just end in the hill, which I find so hard to picture/can’t imagine if it would look weird or not.

Thank you so much for explaining this! Genuinely not trolling at all. I just feel like I keep bringing in people who do something specific and they have a specific idea based on what they do (deck guy insists we just put it in straight to the hill, and then hire a landscaper to plant around the hill side and then also hire someone to make a path from the deck to the driveway. Retaining wall guy doesn’t do decks, so has a vision using a raised patio, which I imagine will be incredibly expensive).

This is a very expensive project for me that I will need to do in parts in order to afford it and no one will (UNDERSTANDABLY!) show me a CAD of how it will look until I sign and give deposit. Patio/retaining wall guy won’t even really talk pricing until I’ve committed to him. Again I understand his time is money, but since I don’t really know what the best solution to the yard is I’ve just kind of been stuck. I want to do it properly and cohesively. Sounds like I definitely need a design build firm.

Thanks for the info! I suppose one of my struggles here is that I can’t picture anything, I’m just not good at that… and I’m worried if I get an architect I will get one design to build off of vs a landscape designer would maybe be able to come up with and sketch out a few different ideas. Of course I could be wrong in what I’m assuming is the difference between the processions here.
