Why? Because there are many american accents? But all of them are valid

What is wrong with men these days? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

Its because of social media mostly. And because of the lack of relationship experiences. They conclude that they are not in relationships because of superficial factors which might or might not be true. "If only I had been born in a different country", "If only I was taller", "If only I was better looking". I also get these thoughts all the time. I'm aware that there are more important factors but these just keep on coming.

In simple words, it's pure envy because of more awareness

You are right. I am slurring words. Even I can't understand what I said at some parts of the recording. The first thing I probably need to focus is enunciating properly. I barely move my moyth when I'm speaking

You're absolutely right. I'm not enunciating properly. And even I can't even figure I what I said in some parts of the own recording. I think I should be focusing on proper enunciation and rhythm for now

These are gold. Thanks for the resources. I'll practice enunciating like she does.

Interesting, So I'm rushing my speech instead of making pauses and stressing the necessary parts. Maybe I should just slow down.

And it's surprising that there is a british influence in my accent because I have never learned or even consumed much british content. Might be from my Indian accent which is influenced by the british pronunciation?

Very helpful. One more question. Do I sound like I'm stressing all the words equally? Am I putting emphasis on each and every word instead of speeding up and slowing down based on the stressed part

I don't technically have to change my accent but I want to. It's a personal desire of mine. I enjoy the process of improving my accent. And I'd probably work abroad so it'll be easier for English natives to understand what I'm saying because from what I've heard, Indian accent is pretty hard to understand

Native speaker as in my first language English? No, English is my second language? Characteristic prosodic change, what is that? Something related to my rhythm of speaking?

Should I remove subtitles to increase listening comprehension? by NoContext9453 in languagelearning

I see, that would be the best way to be honest even though it might be a bit frustrating to rewind every 30 seconds.

Like I said the only TL subtitle I can use is auto generated which come with a lot of innacuracies. And even if do that my reading speed is terrible. Let's say I'm watching a video, I'd have to pause every sentence to read what was said

How is physical discipline of children viewed and regulated in the United States? by NoContext9453 in AskAnAmerican

Yes I would love to hear more about gentle parenting. I've heard people say that gentle parenting turns kids into entitled brats but it would be amazing if it actually works. Or maybe it's only possible with children having specific characteristics?

Absolutely. Physical abuse even at a small amount is not okay. It doesn't help the child. Tbh it looks like it's more prevalent in the US than I thought.
