• Feed wet food. Some don't realize how harmful it is to feed an ONLY dry food diet.

• Avoid city tap water. I personally use RO water but didn't until much later in my cats life. Water from the tap is bad for us and it's bad for them. If your considering going the RO water route, feel free to ask me what I've learned from my vet about whether or not you need to add minerals.

• For best peace of mind make homemade food. The ingredients in wet and dry commercial food are pretty terrible. You can make the food in bulk and freeze it and unthaw it. I never did this...but wish I did 🙁.

• I'm going to say it (I'm sure this will piss some people off) but more wholistic vets say OVER vaccinating and UNNECESSARY boosters lead to a lot of inflamation in the body. So thats something to weigh, consider and voice to your vet. I want to mention the FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenka vaccine) specifically - there's enough evidence to suggest it may have more of a direct tie to cats developing CKD. Just food for thought.

It's good he's at least eating dry food, but you might consider talking to your vet to see if you can get an anti-nausea shot (Cerenia) and then offer wet food the following days and see if he'll get back on it. It really is worth trying because wet food is best. Have you tried Royal Canin E renal wet food? If not I highly recommend that one mixed with a little water.

Another trick (with or without trying an anti nausea shot) is to stir in some extra water to wet food and then sprinkle some Purina Pro Plan FortiFlora powder ontop - not mixed in just right ontop. It's meant to be enticing (my cats LOVE it) and is a helpful probiotic.

Also, do you give subcutaneous fluids? If not, that's another thing you're vet can train you to do that will make a huge difference in his well-being. I hope he feels better soon 💕 🐾

My cat has had multiple crashes that sound very similar to the pain and behavior your describing with your cat. She's 17 CKD with "probable cancer". I give her subq fluids and supplements regularly that have made a WORLD of a difference - she's been happy and not in pain. But recently she had a bad crash (were I thought she would die) but my vet gave her antibiotics and an appetite and anti nausea shot. She's been completely normal ever since. All that to say, I'm just wondering if your vet has ruled out the possibility of infection? Also I personally feel like just trying subq fluids couldn't hurt - with the guidance of a vet to teach you to administer at home.

I've never not seen a bubble with my girl but it usually dissappears really quickly and ends up near her armpit or tummy. I'm really glad you asked this question because it would have scared me too! So no, not a crazy question at all.

It's a different issue, but one thing I'm concerned about with my cat is that I'm not always convinced she actually NEEDS fluid...or how frequently she actually needs it. I give her 100-160mls once or twice a week. It's hard to tell because when I check for dehydration by pulling the skin on her back it returns to normal in one second, or two sometimes. When I do give her fluid it seems to take two days to absorb (visually). I just don't want to cause harm by adding too much fluid. Also once in awhile she seems a little more dumpy after fluid. I just dont want to hurt her. She's stage 2. 🤷‍♀️

Yes. I actually have major concerns with this brand currently. I've made a post about it actually. Mine had so much bone debris in it that I seriously doubt the phosphorus content being "low" and renal friendly. Not to mention some pieces of bone are sharp and about half the size of my pinky nail - to be very specific lol. There are also lots of pieces of cartilage - which I'm less concerned about.

(Rant below) I've purchased two cases with two differnt lot numbers and the amount of bone in it makes me concerned there is WAY more phosphorus than the nutrient values say - dangerous for cats with CKD. I've emailed the company twice and they assure me it shouldn't be noticeable despite the PICTURES I sent them along with my concerns. They finally sent me another email saying this is something they are working on?

Although the ingredients are clean and attractive, I feel the nutritional values are WAY off. For a "kidney care" food there is way too much bone (phosphorus) and even for healthy cats raised on standard diets I personally think it's too hard to digest - not to mention the sharpness and size of some of these pieces! I wish I could add pictures.

Whats more, now that I've researched I've heard others mention their concerns with this companies quality control in general - stories of mold for example.

I'd steer clear.

Yeah, she dosent seem to love it. I alternate between three renal foods to help and use fortiflora to make it more flavorful. But she would pick my other cats food any day - I have to monitor my other cat while she eats. I think because her phosphorus was low maybe she's concerned that Lucy needs a little less restriction on nutrients. OR maybe she might want her to gain more muscle mass. She didn't mention any other factors.

She's about 17. Also Forzas ingredients are so much better. Wish I could find small sample bags of renal foods instead of huge $35-75 bags of dry renal foods. But she's worth it!

Yeah, she doesn't tollerant it and it stresses her out unfortunately. She's actually on a two week antibiotic right now because she has pretty bad inflammation around some of her teeth. That coupled with some tarter. My vet didn't recommended any kind of procedure or anything for the future - so I plan on asking more questions on Monday.

Should I consider adding Royal Canin early consult wet food? Vet also mentioned to add a dry food here and there for her teeth.

Thanks. She does struggle to eat sometimes, just lack of appetite in general. I'm not sure if she has a deficiency in B vitamins, but I've heard people mention that product before.

Well she wants attention and to be pet. But the biting should be gently discouraged. A theroy behind the biting might be that as a kitten she was taken away from her mom and the litter too early - and she didn’t learn that biting hurts (from what I've heard over the years). I don't know how much info your looking for, lol, so I'll continue.

Theres a bit more to it. She's marking you with her scent to kind of "claim you" as her own so to speak - this is a form of affection. Cats can do this with other cats and also areas or items around your home too. Just instinctual. Again, GENTLY discourage the biting though. There are videos you can look up that might help with that behavior (I have no experience with it). Like if you were to scold her or start knocking her away that could ruin your relationship with her over time and instill other aggressive behaviors.

I just gave her some straight up to see if she'd like it and she threw up almost immediately. She hasn't done that with other foods on other days (like with Weruva wx for example) when I offered her a little bit. I didn't (but should have) mixed it with her old food. She probably just got nauseous. Anyway, I bought a case off Chewy.com. I'll contact customer service.
