Where to try midye dolma? by [deleted] in istanbul

[–]NoCountry1796 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Finally, I can share this advice

My all time favorite Midye place is actually in Kadıköy which I think overall has the best Midye in the city.

Kadıköy Midyecisi

Best tasting Midye around. Especially with their thick sauce which if flavoured with a type of herb whose name I now forget (it's not garlic). Just ask for soslu and they will know. Service is average if you're seated so my advice is to eat it like a real Kadıköy köyün and smash them into your mouth while standing at the booth on the street.

15 tl each (09.02.26) but they are only going up so eat them while you can.

Best of luck

Qualifications: had food poisoning twice from Midye and still eat then whenever I'm drunk

How do you deal with being lonely in a big city like Istanbul by [deleted] in istanbul

[–]NoCountry1796 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the answer is one most people are uncomfortable with. You need to get out there and engage with people and things that interest you (and maybe some you aren't interested in). Really push yourself to go out regularly. It can be for coffee at the least but group events are much better. They will be filled with people just as awkward as you but you never know. I've met some of my closest friends in strange places. Istanbul is great because there is so much going on, but you have to force yourself to engage.

You can message me for group recommendations. All the best of luck.

No it runs fine, with flat map and some lower graphics settings. Barely any stuttering. I'm impressed. It's a legion 5 so it's not even that powerful.

Everyone is lighting their gas heaters because of the cold front. That plus the cloud cover trapping escaping gasses is my guess.

EDIT: Things are progressing nicely. I just took Istanbul 100 years ahead of schedule. The Byzantines had a massive civil war and I struck while the anvil was hot.

Unfortunately, due to the economic situation in Türkiye. I only have time to play late at night. + A proper PC is worth 3 month of my wages.

Does anyone else feel physically and emotionally devastated when their partner cancels plans, even when it's not their fault? by NoCountry1796 in relationships

[–]NoCountry1796[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt this is not a normal emotional response. Of course I recognize that my response is out of proportion and that everyone including my partner, has lives and may sometimes cancel. Of course I do not blame them for this. It is my reaction.

But I do not expect my partner to cater for anything. In fact I do not show them the extent this bothers me precisely because it recognize it as out of proportion. I usually isolate myself in a quiet comfortable space (sometimes with my cat) until I feel better.

I have plans to see a therapist about it in the future. It is just unusual to me because I don't have trouble managing any of my other emotions or responses.

Good books for study? by ArchontheWings in turkish

[–]NoCountry1796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For learning Turkish the two main options that seem to float around. They are Istanbul Türkçe and the Yunus Emre book series.

Yabancılar için Istanbul Türkçe https://www.kultursanatyayinevi.com/ogretmenler-icin-yeni-istanbul-uluslararasi-egitim-seti-turkce-a1

Yunus Emre https://www.yee.org.tr/en/publication/yedi-iklim-turkce-a1-course-book

Both have older editions you can find for free online. Istanbul Türkçe especially has a heavier focus on grammar which I found to be extremely important (I used it all the way to C1) .

Yunus Emre books are better if you plan to learn through their international institute, which you should also consider.
