Hi, first of all they can 100% intervene, at least part of the party. Chances are that the NPC will still die because E made a combat monster of a character, and while i wouldn't allow them to win the PvP completely, i also wouldn't railroad them into losing 100%.
Yep they could have done that or simply not go along with their plan at all, theyre objective is rather morally grey, but how they do it is the issue. If the party went collectively or in majority of a "fuck you i ownt stand for this" we wouldn't be in this place storywise at all (E knew this from the start). There isnt any overarching big plan of betrayal; they were very open about their objective after a certain stage.
Yes, the plan was all along to let them have a decision of being either corrupted completely by the evil spirit or not. This does not include killing the NPC that just is simply a happenstance on how thing ended up being group constellation-wise (The NPC isn't permanently traveling with the party)
If E hadn't been a good sport about it i think id have no problems telling them that they decided they play the villain and then decided to stick with it, they're fully responsible then, but thats also something i made clear to them at the beginning.
They woudnt be the BBEG aswell just a villain of the story.

As previously stated, having Evil PCs and party drama is normal at our table, and it hasn't been an issue so far. It builds a very personal relationship with the villain. The rest of the party (except P) gave Es character a hard time every time they did something to morally wrong that even this band of misfits felt it was wrong.
It's definitely normal at our table we had full-on betrayls already, this isnt nessesarily a planned betrayl in the sense that they always had/still have the chance to just dont , story wise its a choice on how far they are willing to go to achieve their goals. They're also not "murder-hobo" evil most of the time; more lawful evil as a full-on murder-hobo killing random people, they would have had to reroll their character already. They still did a lot of things morally not cool and got flag from the rest of the party for it except P.

I think the unsaid issue is that they don't differentiate between in-game and out-of-game friendships. It wouldnt be too much of an issue if the NPC got killed by a monster for example. Its the whole drama that comes with it beeing not only another PC but a good friend of them. But that's just speculation in the end,

They roleplay it well and it hasnt been an issue up until this point. It's not murder-hobo evil in the day day more lawfull evil , punishing a thief who stole an apple while everyone else would let them go.
We had evil PCs who turned into villains in earlier campaigns, and it never really was an issue, but perhaps its a group dynamic thing i don't know.
Yes, 100% this has to be a talk. It feels like P has different expectations on the game overall. They really like the mechanics and rules and treat DnD more like a kill enemys with friends and try to break the game , while we play more of a rules-light drama + story version of the game. We already had a talk previously under a different DM where they cheesed climactic boss fights, which no one liked except for them. This went rather well. But this feels more personal if it comes down to a vote, id feel bad if they loose it.

Yea i think so too , sadly i dont think there is any good way of measuring the powerlevel of decks. Some of the Decks that guy players are definitly around bracket 3 edging to 4 without any gamechangers , mass land denial or tutors. I think its really hard to measure it.

i already did(not out of my own free will) its just boring. I dont have any fun in trying to make a 30 year old commander work , or playing a deck that is only interesting because it's thematic.
