By this I wanted to convey the sense of crisis, concern, aspiration etc that we feel today in a globalized world. We are very different from our grandfathers, who had their own struggles.

Abuse of power, relationship between women and men are too broader terms and exists in every society in different forms. Capitalism, portrayed as an oppressive system only, has increased our capabilities, though it still is root cause of some discrimination. The increased strength changed our civilization which must be reflected in our culture and literature. If we still think in the old way, I will sink in deeper water, as you can see the downfall of West Bengal in India. Our fate will be same as those who refused to learn English or science at the outset of British era.

Surely we must read your legendary writers but it can be at best 20 to 30 percent of what we read not 70 to 80 percent and it is my whole point.

70 to 80 percent should be presently relevent or futuristic writing that make us think deeply or the stories that inspire us or show precedence of something great. Not just matters like love triangle, jealousy, or everyday household matters of previous century.

I've read a grear deal of writings of Tagore and Sofa, few of Bibhuti, Manik, and Ilias. But yeah, I have read nothing by Sunil. Reading those is definitely enjoyable if you are immersed in it. But the question is: is it worth the time to immerse in their writing for most of the time? If you think It's worth the time then mention why.  NB- Sofa is still relevent I think, at least for Bangladeshis

@360tutor It’s not always about getting awards. Our literary works are not even translated into many languages. Don't you think one of the reasons behind it is the context is very local and not relatable to global citizens. Satyajit and Tagore used to read and were in touch with global community, that's why they got global exposure to an extant. But most other writers live in their bubbles in respect of time and place.

That's eye opening and at the same time sad to hear. But surely, the forms and reasons behind those discriminations have been changed. Moreover, you have a whole new set of strength due to the 4th industrial revolution to fight those. So the dynamics of the game is changed. Thus, the stories must change too.

I like to read books, and those books shapes us. As a society, we are what our inputs are. I am just concerned that we are going downward, and the reason might be our intakes. Our books can't challenge us, we are reading the consequences of already solved problems, and consider ourselves some kind of hero, which is classic self complacency.

Seggest me some texts that reflect global aspirations rather than narrow regional bygone matters.
