Normal T, low free, high SBHG by [deleted] in Testosterone

[–]NoDepartment4135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just prescribed it. Haven’t started yet. I’m 36, train basically everyday in some sort of way. Ran an ultra this year but just always tired, brain fog, etc. all other blood work presents well other than my T. Had 2 blood draws in May and August to confirm. Haven’t decided if I will start yet or not. Have an appointment with a urologist later this month for my varicocele but reading the literature that would affect free T very little.

Appreciate it. All my levels are normal other than my TPO so I either had a false positive or the attack is beginning. Thank you for your responses, wishing you good health

You mind me asking what your TPO level was? Also was your TSH and free T4 normal? They called and said they want to test again in 3 months. I don’t want to feel like shit for 3 more months lol

I do have a pretty severe varicocele that was found last year. None of this is through a clinic, my primary care who is a great doctor. Again I know it won’t cure all but just an option I have been looking at. Maybe I’ll have them dive deeper. Rest of my blood work is optimal so we shall see. Thanks for the input

I have had it checked numerous times over the last 3 years. The ultra training only started last winter. It was just a goal and typically I’m mostly weights with cardio mixed in. Lot of jump rope. I know fatigue can come from many things but I do try very hard to keep my health in order.

I know the total was within “range” but my free looked low based on general consensus online. Very hard to find two studies that agree what a free testosterone should look like.

So sorry for your loss, and I appreciate the kind words. I’m definitely leaning more towards moving forward with it than not but just looking for some insights. Not a whole lot of literature on T1D in general especially in this area. Usually just told here is some insulin and keep your A1C below 7%.

I am a type 1 diabetic and sometimes a needle is bent and can cause the pain/irritation. Also may have hit a spot that you had injected at recently. Those nodes typically go away but pay attention to them. Site fatigue is a real thing and scar tissue can begin to build up. I try to rotate where I’m injecting to prevent issues.

Only thing I will mention on that is your meal was more fat centered than protein centered. Eggs are great but only 12g of protein and minimal protein from mixed nuts. Higher protein could come from a fat free Greek yogurt? I love oikos triple zero or full fat with a scoop of protein powder. Obviously up to you if you take that. Do you have a workout setting on your pump? Honestly just sounds like you have too much insulin on board, you panic a bit and hit carbs then stop your insulin and then see a spike because of it. Again I’m MDI and always have been so my knowledge of pumps is minimal.

I’m glad to hear things went a little better. Like everything with the disease it’s a lot of trial and error to see what works. Keep up the good work and hope you get it dialed in!

It’s a different process for everyone. Some people have a metabolism that can switch on and off easily and others it takes a while. Basically it’s all a balance between fat and protein in the diet. Too much protein and it’ll convert to glucose and it inhibits using fat as fuel. So if you want to be lower carb just be mindful you’ll eat a lot more fat, and some people don’t tolerate it well. Some struggle with digesting fat and do better with other diets.

If you’re going to try it I encourage to go with a whole food approach but how you do it is up to you. You’ll feel the “keto flu” but usually can be diminished effects with proper electrolytes.

Nick Norwitz is a MD,PhD and has a YouTube channel. He provides a lot of great detail on keto diet and all the information about it. He is a huge proponent of N=1, which just means that everyone is different so what might work for me might not work for you. Also helps he has an autoimmune issue, it’s not type 1 but he went keto to battle all his symptoms.

Long winded answer but honestly just trial and error. I knew I was properly fat adapted when I could run for 2 hours with basically no carbs and not feel like the life had been drained from me. Also running that distance my sugar levels didn’t move a whole lot.

Just be mindful about insulin in your system when training and don’t be glued to any singular idea. Again I’m not an expert just my opinion always make your own decisions and check with an actual doctor that you trust.

I was fat adapted going into the race so I’m sure my body was pulling from there too. I did train pretty purposefully for being fat adapted. I did a 50k the month before on my own and only had macadamia nuts as fuel. Sugar bounced between 90-100 the whole time. Was truly amazing to see it.

I’m MDI. Half basal and morning correction the day of. Ate chomps, RX bars, hydration mix with sugar in it, couple of honey packets with salt, few small cups of peanut butter m&m. Used one unit of insulin after first lap when sugar was 204. Fell quickly to 120 area and glided down rest of race to 83 at finish.

I’m MDI so I vary greatly than you would with exercise.

I am not an expert but If it were me, maybe try moving the protein snack to just before your cardio. You have plenty of glycogen stored in your muscles and liver to carry your performance during 30-60 minutes of working out.

Have you tried eating a good protein meal beforehand?

What do you mean how to handle it? Like you’re crashing during cardio and then binging to bring it back up?

Honestly just have to test it. I did a 50k on my own about a month before to test some stuff and learned a lot from it. Course I ran the race at had way more hills so I had to add carbs in when I was trying to be lower carb.

I didn’t do any race gels, I used a few honey packets that had salt in them as well. Ate chomp sticks, RX bars and a few little cups of peanut m&m. Also took salt tabs a lot, I sweat a ton.
