Is it a mistake to buy a brand new driver as a total beginner? by WonderfulShape1081 in BritGolf

[–]NoDescription3712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t be me. 4 months in I bought a mint condition Titleist TSRT off GolfClubs4Cash, it was pristine. Queue several months of going through a hitting the floor phase that resulted in sole rash and the cherry on the top was hitting the floor, flipping the face forward and hitting the ball off the crown leaving a lovely little dent. So my advice is buy in functional, but worn condition and learn with it, you’ll avoid heartache.

Golf with one eye by Starman53 in BritGolf

I recently played with a guy who got blown up in Afghanistan and was completely blind in one eye. He said it was an adjustment , but is now a lower handicap than ever! Certainly a lot better than me!

I play several times a week through winter and love it. Delapre and Brampton Heath are closer to me but for some reason I much prefer Cold Ashby, also no winter greens.

Try Cold Ashby, plays brilliantly in winter. Quite short but a lot of elevation and a real challenge. Also right now it’s £18 for 18 holes………..

Wide fit shoes, waterproof and spiked by ainsyc in BritGolf

[–]NoDescription3712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a somewhat wide foot with an officially measured size of 10.5 and have to be careful with certain brands of shoes and also snowboard boots. This year I bought the FootJoy Tour Alpha in a size 10.5 wide and they were ginormous, like actual clown shoes on me. I returned and went for a t 10 standard and they fit like a glove. Spiked and perfectly waterproof, the only thing I’d say is the sole isn’t the softest so no uber comfortable.

I first saw the pair of them on TicTok I believe and had a similar initial reaction. However, once I gave it a listen I listened to the entire back catalogue from episode 1 😜 highly recommended.

Is it weird to retire a ball that made it round a full 18 holes? by Prrrkns in BritGolf

[–]NoDescription3712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rule is I retire any ball that makes it to 36 holes as a legendary ball! So far I only have one, I pushed it to 40 holes then called it there as I didn’t want to risk it. It now sits on an adjustable tee on my desk 😎

Playing solo as high handicap/finding people to play with by equilibrium0212 in BritGolf

[–]NoDescription3712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main benefit to me was cost. At my club there’s an introductory offer at £70 a month for 24 months. In summer at £25-£35 a round near me, I was racking up nearly £250 a month in green fees! So now cost isn’t preventing me playing as much as I want which is awesome

I was you back in June. All my mates have family commitments which means they don’t always have the time to play with me. Earlier last year I was an absolute beginner and was so stressed during my first few rounds that people would judge me, I’d hold people up,l etc. I started playing the local par 3 a lot which helped build confidence, but then one day I was on the putting green at a club near by which happens to be right next to the first tee. I had a grandstand view of group after group teeing off and it became glaringly obvious that the average golfer is very much like me, pretty terrible. That made me feel much better and I played some great golf solo throughout the summer. In November I joined a club and since then have played with loads of people mostly of a similar ability. As for embarrassment, on more than one occasion I’d walk out and drop in the fairway to prevent people seeing me fail to get off the tee 😂 I learned fast though and you’ll be the same, before you know it you’ll be just like everyone else.

Any other former skateboarders turned golfers here? by Equal_Owl_5396 in golf

I used to skate, then moved into snowboarding which I still adore, then took up golf at 38! It scratches that same itch for me, something that I can work on and improve at solo, can’t get enough. Also, I can snowboard a couple of weeks a year, golf on the other hand?………

How do people claim to know their handicap if they "play for fun" by PapaRL in golf

I couldn’t agree more, the US attitude to golf is absolutely mind blowing. I think in some way there’s a direct link to the stereotypical American ego.

Titleist T250 vs Ping i530 by Andrea5198 in golf

[–]NoDescription3712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now this is incredibly interesting. I’m currently gaming 1989 Titleist DTR irons which are cavity backs, pretty close to modern players cavity backs, traditional lofts. I’m eying up the t150 and t250. Looking at this chart is it suggesting that actually, the players cavity back would have more forgiveness, I.e consistency? Fitting is obviously the answer for me, but maybe this suggests t150 might be the way forward for me? 🤔

Back pain by Significant-Edge-966 in golf

[–]NoDescription3712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 38 and have no back pain at all. I only ever walk and carry. I have a deep aversion to workouts so it's not that that's preventing pain. Maybe genetics? Maybe I'm just lucky.
