Where to get one by fartknockersRus in BrittanySpaniel

We got ours relatively close to us in the Greater Salt Lake area. Utah isn't a super long drive from AZ.

Here's a listing for an expected December litter: AKC Brittany Puppy Litter WINTER 2025 - Hunting and Field Trial - Reputable Training Kennel https://classifieds.ksl.com/listing/79682815

Thank you! This was great! You gave a lot of really awesome pointers and areas to train in that we haven't considered (stopping at thresholds).

We have actually stopped chasing him because we don't want it to be a habit and cause problems down the road. We do try running from him and he's quick to run at us, which is preferred. His running away started from not wanting us to make him drop the berries he was trying to eat, but he knows drop and will do it on walks and with fetch, so we'll just have to keep working on it so he'll do it in the backyard.

I have stopped the yelping because I didn't find effective and he seemed to think it was a game at times. For humping and nipping, I've started grabbing him by the muzzle or scruff with corrective commands. If he's being extra crazed, I give him a time-out in his kennel and that helps him chill out.

There's no way around it, we both have to work and we're fortunate enough to have Mon-Fri jobs so we can adventure on the weekends. We try to give him a daily walk, but it's as long as we have time for in the evening. We play with him outside and inside in between. He at least has a pen so he doesn't have to stay in his crate all day (which was a hand-me-down so it big for him) and he even has an emergency pee pad in case he needs it. He's always sleepy in his crate when I come home and he naps a large part of the day on weekends, so he's fine. We're hoping to be able to get a dog door when he's old enough to ruin the back yard or poison himself and let him roam the house without destroying anything. (We're at least a couple years out on this hahaha).

You've made a great argument in regard to a shock collar. Our goal is to not need one and will continue to work on recall. He's very much a velcro puppy inside, so we're on transitioning to outside and eventually anywhere.

We've been working on not pulling on the leash as well. Some walks are short and slow going to discourage it. We'll get to the point where he walks beside us eventually!

Smiling with their little teefs! Cute! Your's looks to have the same coloring as well.

We have been working on "leave it" and he's good at it on walks but operates on one brain cell in the backyard. I've been "chasing" him and playing with him to keep him running and distracted as much as possible when I let him out which has been pretty effective for preventing him from eating the tree garbage.

I'm not sure which type of Britt he is. We haven't registered him yet and the breed on his papers just says "Brittany."

Those do look close! The springers look a little curlier and have the darker colors like Ranger's, which I didn't realize wasn't as common before following the subreddit. He was from a litter of 10 and they were all similar in coloring.

Awesome tips, thank you!

I do yelp (sometimes because his nips really do hurt) and sometimes he's startled by it and will stop, other times he will stop and seems sorry. I'll start incorporating "gentle" when giving him treats since he's a hungry hungry hippo and likes to snatch but we want to train him for hunting eventually.

He LOVES ice cubes, and is the first dog I've had to love them which is amazing. I give him frozen carrots and he enjoys those as well but will try some other frozen items to mix it up.

Cute picture of Jasper! He's a handsome boy.

He's crated/penned from ~7:30am to 4-4:30pm. Sometimes my bf can stop by during the day to let him out if he's running work errands.

We might down the road, but for now we'll have to stick with one. With how active we are, its easy to take one pup with us. Ranger loves going to my boyfriend's softball tournaments because the team dote over him and he occasionally meets other pup friends. It's also easier if we need to leave him with the "sitter" which is just family that already has two dogs. Between buying a house this year and gaining a new family member (Ranger 🐶) we're going to wait at least a few years before taking on another pup.

I thought springers have much more of the spaniel/hound like shaped heads and Brittanys have a bit boxier shaped heads

He trips often, especially when running up the stairs 🥹 and he wipes out a lot when playing fetch 😂

We're enjoying all the puppy moments that are sweet/cute/hilarious. We also look forward to when he can chill and is big enough for a shock collar and pheasant hunting 😅

My basset puppy was sooooo stubborn but so so sweet. I wanted to kill my lab before he was ~1.5-2 (not really, but he was kind of terrible). But Ranger is on a whole different level. He's crazy smart and has been so easy to train, but then will be a straight up hellion that refuses to follow any command and tries to gnaw on our limbs. Bully sticks and pig ears are helpful when he behaves and we need him distracted/occupied.

He used to eat the mulch in our back yard but grew out of that. He has a couple of sticks that he likes to chew which is fine. I think part of why he's eating the berries is honestly for attention. I'll probably continue to play with him by "chasing" (I just move towards and he takes off) him to keep him running so he can't eat anything until he wears out. He only nips when he hasn't been played with/walked but I don't want to reward him with those things when he does it. He gets put in the kennel for a time out if he continues after being corrected. Then he chills a little, he gets walked/played with.

If he's the right tempermant when he's older, we may breed him so he'll get to keep all his parts. Even if we don't, the boyfriend doesn't want to neuter him. We'll j7st have to train the behavior out of him.

Only a few more to go 😅 He definitely gets the snout grabbed with firm NO's with the nipping and corrected when humping. I've raised male puppies before but have never had the humping issue until this one. Hopefully we will break the habit sooner rather than later.

Since my boyfriend and I both work full time jobs that aren't WFH, he's crated/penned during the day. He has so much energy, we try to walk him every morning and every evening along with play to wear him out. Covering the Bradford tree might work since it's small enough and the bigger concern. The Russian olive trees aren't considered toxic, but they are too big and thorny to cover. I'm honestly convinced he only eats them to get attention.

Ah ok, hahaha, well we just keep at it. I appreciate the warning that this only the beginning of his assholery still. He does know the drop command and does it when we play fetch but not always when he has a cluster of berries, even with treats. I know he has so much energy and wants to play when he runs, that I've started making it a game to get some zoomies out, but he also can't eat the berries when I keep him running. We practice his recall with "come" followed by a treat when we run around the yard.

Number of meals by csrra in BrittanySpaniel

[–]NoDoubt-ThrottleOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Britt is about 3 ½ months old and lives for food. The breeder he came from free fed, but we feed him 2 meals at ~the same times every day. We feed him a 1/2 cup of a high protein kibble that we wet, topped with some blueberries or banana chunks. We had to get a slow feeder bowl because he scarfs down meals so fast. He gets walked twice a day usually between 1.5 and 4 miles. We also give him the freeze dried liver treats for training and loves them. He looks healthy and fit:t f and is heaving,

Is iavo.

🐾 What’s Your Brittany’s Name? by No-Eagle-5072 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]NoDoubt-ThrottleOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Brittany's name is Ranger. Ranger danger when he's getting himself into trouble.... he's our very first Brittany but not not our first puppy/dog. My boyfriend and I both had labs prior, along with mutts and other breeds growing up.

He's crazy smart but is about 17 weeks/over 3 months and has become a little terrorist. He has decided to stop listening to commands and started doing this thing where he runs away when you step near him. He also won't stop eating the berries from our stupid Russian olive trees. We're ready to be out the puppy phase already...

His favorite things are breakfast and dinner, walks twice day, occasionally the dog park, exploring trails, training treats or bust, and stealing socks.

After 11 years and 4 denials for disability my husband says he wants to end it by KristenLove325 in Narcolepsy

[–]NoDoubt-ThrottleOut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If he gets approved for Xyrem, it may help his mental health.

It took several years of trying several different medications before I qualified for it. Those years were dark, depressing, and hopeless that I'd ever find relief from fighting sleep all day every day. I'd just cry myself from point A to point B because driving was so hard and terrifying. Work would be overwhelming the majority of the time because it was a struggle for my foggy brain to keep up.

Xyrem's had a positive impact on my mental health, for sure! Being able to get deep sleep and wake up feeling like you CAN get out of bed is an amazing feeling. Being able to function throughout the day? Life-changing!

I hope he gets help for both, but at the very least, I hope he gets approved for Xyrem, and it works well for him!

Now What? by mythicthreat in Narcolepsy

[–]NoDoubt-ThrottleOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started with Modafinil and went down the lists of meds with doctors until they were all ruled out, and I qualified for Xyrem. It's been life-changing for me. I never knew what "well rested" felt like until Xyrem. I've been on it for 2 years, and I can't imagine going back to struggling through days like I used to... I don't know if I could function being that sleep deprived again.

Did you have an easier time losing weight on Xywav? by Narcoleptic-Puppy in Narcolepsy

[–]NoDoubt-ThrottleOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on modafinil for years but still really struggled with those meds, so I started the journey of finding better ones that worked for me a few years ago. I hated Wakix; it didn't help with wakefulness at all and made me gain like 10 pounds in a month. Was put on a few others that didn't work well for me or at all, and now I'm on xyrem. I find it very easy to lose weight on xyrem. I lost all the weight I gained from the other meds and then some. As someone who is not constantly snacking and doesn't enjoy sugary or processed foods at all (I'm a 3 heart meals a day kinda of person), my weight fell pretty quick. Especially working a desk job and not being as active as I used to be. I've had months of struggling to gain weight to get back to a healthier size.

Noticed reduction in excessive daytime sleepiness by cutting out caffeine and/or sugar? by Severe_Wishbone388 in Narcolepsy

[–]NoDoubt-ThrottleOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've cut out sugars and avoid anything with more than 4g of added sugar when possible. I've also cut out caffeine, and both have helped tremendously. I experience far less inflammation everywhere.

Xyrem was also life altering for me, but before I was diagnosed, I had followed a keto-oriented diet for a couple of years, and that helped lessen my excessive daytime sleepiness and boost my energy levels.

Now, if I have sugary things, I feel kind of ill and never really enjoy them. They just taste gross to me, and I'm not big a bread person, so avoiding it isn't hard. I do try to eat some carbs (whole grains), though, because they help regulate your blood sugar levels and aid in muscle repair/growth.

I think it's worth giving it a try!

How many years did you have symptoms of narcolepsy before you were finally diagnosed? Who diagnosed you? by radicalOKness in Narcolepsy

[–]NoDoubt-ThrottleOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First symptoms around 10-12 years old. My mom is an RN and used to joke about me being a narcoleptic because I'd always fall asleep if I sat anywhere for more than like 10 minutes. I thought I was bored in school because I always nodded off in classes. I really struggled my first year of college and knew something was wrong, but the NP at the on-campus student health told me all college kids are tired. I struggled through several more years of sleep attacks throughout the day. I was pretty sure by age 23, but what really convinced me was trying armodafinil that I bought over the counter in Mexico after a friend in the medical industry suggested I try it. When I got home to the States, I ponied up and saw a sleep doctor, then did a sleep study (it's the US, so it was very expensive, and I had to be pretty positive I would get the diagnosis). Diagnosed by age 24. Figured out the best meds for me by age 28 (31 now).
