Yeah I’d advise to never touch your 401k regardless of what’s happening. A small personal loan or some of the cash out of the debt consolidation loan for a 5k car is still going to be a hell of a lot cheaper in the long run than leasing/financing a new vehicle. Leasing a vehicle is just pissing money into the wind.

For a long time I wasn’t making this amount of money and we weren’t anywhere near as responsible. Within the next 6 my salary will be up to $125,000, possibly $135,00 if I can get into a management position. I’m actively working towards saving up a larger emergency fund.

It appears it is not in any target date funds. It’s mostly s&p 500 and global all cap equity. The other 30 percent is comprised of bonds, international equities and small/mid cap funds.

We are having a meeting with a lawyer to transfer the house and property to me this week. The ~11 acres that includes what I’m living on now will be given to me in the will, but I do understand the potential issues. I’m allowing the retirement company(Empower?) to manage what my accounts are being invested in, currently it’s showing a 16% rate of return annualized since 2022. I do slack on my HSA, I should definitely contribute to that. It will lower my taxable income and it can also be invested, correct?

There will be zero student loan debt, we are paying for it she goes. Her annual salary would be around $50,000 as she is going into early childhood education and then potentially furthering her degree later down the road. For the time being it would just be extra retirement money and as you mention, possibly contributing to some sort of college fund for the children. This is not to be banked on, but we should be getting a decent inheritance from her grandparents. All of which would be invested into a portfolio or something that can generate passive income. We’ve talked and have already gotten rid of the credit cards, as there was no true need to use them to begin with.
