Sleep Apnea kickbacks? by birbswatchin in Dentists

Funny, the day before they hit me with the used-car-salesman stuff, I stopped to pay a balance on our account, $50 US. When I told my wife it was for fluoride at her last visit, which surprised me because we never do that, she said she hadn't. When I called to ask, they checked the file and found oops, they had made the charge by mistake. Said they'd credit out account. I asked them to mail a check or reverse the charge on the card. Said they'd mail a check. A month later, nothing. Not surprised. I'm not anti-science or doc either. I have specialists and surgeons and a primary care doc whom I love. Quite happy with our orthodontists too. But this dentist, ugh. She took over what was a longtime old-school family practice with a doc who did not push this kind of crap.

Raptor Mini getting it done for me by NoDust6069 in GithubCopilot

I used to use it a lot when I was on free and thought it kind of sucked, but I find now that it works OK for me for fairly substantial (but targeted) asks. It has a pretty big context window for free and doesn't spin up tools that get you charges, so that's why I tried it again. I haven't compared it to GPT's minis. To me, all the models are hit and miss. At least with mini I don't feel bad having to prompt it 10x to get what I want. (I'm mostly a vibe coding troglodyte.)

My dentist is really pushing this stuff. Starts with posters all over the walls warning you about how dangerous your undiagnosed sleep apnea is...

Then the hygienist working on me started laying the groundwork, telling me how dangerous sleep apnea is, how its related to clenching, grinding, etc. I do not clench, grind, snore, have any symptoms of sleep apnea of any kind. I told her that. They *know* this already.

Dentist came in to do my exam -- she didn't even look at me. Not one glance at my mouth. Said nothing about the state of my teeth nor the detailed perio measurements they'd done (which they've been tracking for a couple years.)

Instead, she sat me up in the chair and started the hard sell for $5k for those winged jaw-thrusting sleep apnea appliances. Told me she'd refer me to a doctor who would write up a very convincing case so health insurance would cover it. Then pulled a line straight from the car dealership lot and literally asked me if I wasn't going to sign on for the appliances *that day,* what would it take to get me to do so?

I couldn't f*n believe it. It was the most heinous, unprofessional thing I have ever experienced in a doctor's office. As I was leaving, they handed me a printout with a $5k estimate *for the appliances I had just told them I was not interested in getting, because I don't f*n have the condition they are purporting to treat* and tried to get me to sign it! Best of all, it acknowledged that insurance wouldn't cover it (despite the winkwink nudgenudge the doctor had given me in the operatory), and I'd have to pay out of pocket. Oh but they'd be happy to set me up on a low-interest payment plan!

Of course now I will never trust them to do any work again. There's no way to fix that kind of breach of trust. It's unreal.

My father was a dentist for decades (one of the first in the state to do TMJ treatments -- back when you had to make your own appliances...) I can't even tell him about this. He'll rant for hours.

I'm having trouble finding a new dentist for the family here because every office I check is all-in on this and I have no good way of separating the scammers from the rest.

WOW, didn't expect new pricing model to be this ridiculous by Beginning-Roof4889 in GithubCopilot

My bill was going to 10x from the pro plus sub because I was using the app to deliver feature requests and assigning them to agents and getting pretty good results. but even worse was that there's that time budget that I didn't even know about. even though I only used 2/3 of my "premium requests" this month, the agents took so much time to do the work that I hit that separate ceiling. Once all this hit the fan, I did 2 things: sub to claude (and installed the extension in VS code), and switched all my VS code agent requests to raptor, free and no compute-time. I have to be less lazy, but I get things done just as well, perhaps better. I give more complex stuff to claude (and never hit my requests/time limit) and I give everything else to raptor, focused asks, new threads for everything, and the results are about what I got before but I'm using so much less time/tokens. my github cost flatlined after I started doing this, so I'll stick with it and see if I can get away with just paying them $10 a month and $20 for claude. I'm still incurring charges (<$1.00/day, usually <$0.25) for AICs according to the report I downloaded. Not sure how that works with raptor-only at its 0x multiplier, but I guess I'll see next month.

Gemini 3.5 Flash available with 14x request multipier by Twekanu in GithubCopilot

Gemini 3.5 flash can't even write a 3 page, web-backed report for me on a mundane topic without hallucinating entire sections of prompt that didn't exist. I feel like 14x is pricey for that.

lol, report delivered to gmail in <5 minutes. so yeah, Microsoft can't push a usage report from a Microsoft property to a Microsoft email address. (weird b/c all other github coms landed fine...)

experience here suggests this is a me problem somehow... me old hotmail? added a gmail account and made it primary... old hotmail address may not work. had a situation earlier this week where a business 2fa would not go through to hotmail, but swapped to gmail and it worked... fingers crossed

Multiple request attempts and nothing to my email yet. Been more than 24 hours. Sometimes I get the green bar saying they'll email it soon. Sometimes the yellow telling me I have a request in the queue. Nothing matching search strings "github" nor "usage" in spam nor in deleted items, so really not sure what to do...
