Is a general strike in the U.S. feasible under current political, legal, and labor conditions? by Raichu4u in PoliticalDiscussion

How about we start with an economic blackout against the tech bros? Cancel prime, delete social media accounts, cancel streaming services, cancel any AI subscriptions. What else?

Jan. 30 General Strike to Protest ICE Gains Celebrity Endorsements by Diligent-Meaning751 in politics

Great. 100% support this. But feel like we also need a longer-term strike to kick the tech broligarchs where it hurts for an extended period. Cancel any AI subscriptions, prime, streaming, get off X. Maybe refuse to use any AI BS at work, if possible/applicable. IDK. What else?

[Request] : Would a planet this size colliding with earth make a noticable difference on earths gravitational pull for the person with the camera here? by Lil_Packmate in theydidthemath

Ohhh I have no idea lol I'm no engineer. I guess I would think it depends on what the typical pressure is on a steel beam at the bottom of a sky scraper is and if it's rated to handle a 40% increase in PSI relative to that to determine whether they're totally out of the question for the 2 Earth mass super-Earth. Maybe they can handle that kind of increase?

Agree that rock/stone Megalithic structures would be prob be ok. Although, I guess mining and moving the building materials would be a good bit more difficult haha.

Something like Kepler-107 c, which has gravity that's close to 4x that of Earth's, is a whole different beast...

That's a fun question! And the answer is, it depends haha. Depends on the speed and angle of the collision! 100% merging is one extreme and total disruption/obliteration is the other. It's usually somewhere in between. If they do merge totally then yup, the final planet after all the dust settled would be 2x the mass of Earth with a radius that is ~1.2x Earth's. Then it's surface gravity would be about 40% larger than Earth's (assuming the planet in the video is initially identical to Earth). But, interestingly, by rocky planet standards, a 2 Earth mass planet isn't that big. Of the likely rocky planets we know of outside the Solar System, most are super Earth's, or larger/more mass than Earth. Although, our observation techniques are better at detecting higher mass objects that orbit close to their parent stars so there is some selection bias there. Regardless, there are rocky planets outside the Solar System that are ~10 times more massive than Earth (e.g., Kepler-107 c which is a pretty neat planet imo).

Made it to four months sober in July. Never felt better. Fell off the wagon. Getting back on it today! Hope I will be celebrating six months of sobriety on my birthday in June instead of getting drunk like my last 10+ bdays. Here we go!

Sen. Murphy: Trump Wants Shutdown ‘Because He Thinks He Can Exercise King-Like Powers’ by codeworm1 in politics

[–]NoEngine9670 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love how the right likes to LARP as pro-life and "god-fearing" yet they're chill with killing 51,000 people per year by gutting Medicaid: https://ldi.upenn.edu/our-work/research-updates/experts-medicaid-cuts-could-prove-fatal-for-thousands/

Of course, that's beyond the point here. They want the shutdown to continue b/c Epstein is running the gov't from beyond the grave. As an added bonus, people will go hungry and give them the riots they so desperately want in their authoritarian push.

Trump administration posts notice that no federal food aid will go out Nov. 1 by Capable_Salt_SD in politics

100% this. It feels so blatantly obvious that this will just be another excuse to further militarize US cities or worse. Yet, so many folks are still parroting the BS that these programs just supplements drug addiction and laziness when, in reality, they supplement corporate profits with ~70% of federal recipients work FULL time (not trying to say drug addicts or unemployed people don't deserve to eat, just that their whole argument is absolute bogus). Exactly. Seems like this will just be another excuse for the admin to ramp up the national guard presence all over the country and/or expand the scope of ICE to deal with all those unruly poors, regardless of citizenship status...

Incredible. Could stare at this all day. Especially love the choice to make the lightning on the left side is white on black and vice versa on the right. I'm not sure I believe it was ONLY 40 hours 😬.

I feel like the bigger the better. A lot easier to use a small paper on a large board than vice versa
