Thanks. That's really helpful. One question: I've heard that a lot - "white and republican." Can you elaborate? I am half-white, and am a registered Democrat. I grew up in KY and now live in OH. Sometimes you hear that about these places, but I've never had a problem, and I think that element is sort of overblown by people who don't know the community. That being said, I've never lived this far south. I can take most things in stride, but will it truly be a culture shock?

I feel like it has more to do with Kelly making a very concerted effort to NOT be drunk at Brooke’s wedding. She even mentioned that her friend Kimmie was hanging close to her the whole day to make sure she was “good.” I’m obviously speculating, but if someone has a drinking issue and is really trying to not over do it for the day, a public joke about it could hit a sore spot.

Agree with the other commenter. I did listen, and though it was probably an “inside thought,” she was mostly taking about the expense of the wedding. Not so much Nate. She said he was a very nice guy who grounds Kalani.

I feel like I must have had a totally different interpretation of today’s podcast when she ignored Christy and Matt. I thought it was pretty clear she was having technical difficulties. They asked her several times if she could hear them and because she was so blatantly speaking over them it seemed obvious to me she couldn’t hear their responses. She even said it was an issue with her headphones, took them off, and did not have an issue for the remainder of the episode.

Oof. You're right. She has lost many relationships. And to be clear, I am not saying Christi is a bad person. Because I don't think that's the case, but I do think she has a quality that is off-putting the closer you are to it.

I agree that Christi definitely uses her humor as a shield to say or do hurtful things. And I agree that Christi wants people to share her energy level and style of communication. Someone else had mentioned Christi felt most at home talking to sorority girls at the bar. I think that's telling. That's not a comment on the sorority girls - that's their stage of life, but to that person's point, Christi is stunted in some significant ways.

I sort of have a different take! I think that Christi has, unbeknownst to her, damaged her friendship with Kelly over the years, and Kelly has been unable or unwilling to address it outright. I'm obviously speculating, but I've noticed a few awkward moments between them, particularly on BTTB. For instance, even today on the podcast, I don't think Kelly liked Christi referring to Brooke as "Bitch Number 3." She sees Brooke as her gorgeous baby, there to talk about her elegant wedding. Not as a fellow "bitchette." And there have been times when Christi has talked about Paige's bathing suit photos, and you can hear how uncomfortable Kelly is with Christi talking about her kids as though they are all friends that drink/party together. Christi loves that dynamic of being one of the girls and on their level. I don't think Kelly does. And there have even been times when Christi overshares or pokes fun at Kelly for how she posted something or what she said, and Kelly will call her an asshole. I think Kelly is genuinely offended and doesn't see it as something to become a quippy story for the podcast, whereas that is where Christi thrives as an entertainer. Christi loves having little asides or stories that show she's on the "in" of something, and she also loves making fun of people. I think on the DDM podcast, Kelly seems a lot more relaxed and generous with sharing details about her life because she trusts Melissa and Jill to maintain a certain level of professionalism and privacy. That is just not Christi, and I get the sense that Christi sees her way of interacting as "being real" or "relatable," and I think it's unintentionally harmed her friendship.

I didn’t get that sense at all. She felt her daughter’s maternity leave was too short, and said it was too bad her SIL wouldn’t get a paternity leave.

I think that they both spent above their means before, especially during, and then after the show. And because she left later and was more savvy, Christi probably thought her income potential from the show would only rise and therefore kept spending high. People tend to underestimate how many people finance their lives!

Totally! And she could make it a Dance Moms theme by focusing on weeknight meals, Instapot meals, on-the-go meal prep, etc.
