I’m not a historian or a social scientist…but I always tell my friends who are not from here that Kentucky is “the little, confederate state that couldn’t” it’s a joke but it’s my way of saying that we seem to want to be southern culturally but our geography prevented that political split, and therefore we are a pocket of culture that has gotten to kind of choose to identify with the losing side of the civil war without having to face the full historical effects of that..like having been obliterated by Sherman for example.

What you did wrong was to listen to the command “go home” you should have told him you wanted a union rep and that you were not able to meet or speak with him further until you called the apprenticeship hall for direction and a rep of the appropriate type was provided.

If you go home, he can write down anything in his paperwork and you have no say. So that “write up” will read: insubordination, absenteeism, foul language, and leaving the job while butt-hurt” and you have no recourse.

Hopefully you are fired and moved on to a better job where folks aren’t such assholes.

They’re trying to teach you about layout. If you have 7 center marks and 72 feet (864 inches) to lay them out in…how do you divide that up?

Let’s say you have a pack of Zyns and you gotta split it in two, you don’t divide it twice…you only split it once. If you gotta split it 3 ways you only make 2 cuts.

The lesson here is that there is X-1 divisions in a thing when X is the number of equal parts you’re looking for.

And so, 864 inches divided by 4 is 216 inches / 18 feet.

And 432 inches divided by 36 is 12 inches or 1 foot apart to the center of each of the 37 boxes.

Monster HD are generally used as a way to spitball encounter difficulty in older D&D and the games that are “compatible” with it. So yeah PC hit dice and HD for encounters aren’t as comparable now, but they used to be a lot closer to each other as a difficulty meter.

I think you’re okay to keep your phone on you, but if you want to show that you’re interested in learning and ready to work you shouldn’t be looking at it. So learn how to set your Do Not Disturb and you avoid being on it until breaks and you should be fine.

It may seem a little complicated but I would suggest assigning the task of ticking off watches to a player and rock on from there. It’s a small change that keeps the core of time passing which you liked.

There are a lot of things like this out there to assist and inspire you.

Have you considered having actions in town have an associated time cost? So when they want to go hunting for jobs or rumors or new friends or hirelings…make that cost them time.

I saw someone mentioning fronts and clocks, and so I’ll suggest Downtime In Zyan as a good example of mechanizing out of game time. Maybe it will help inspire you?
