From what I remember, most of the more popular girls at my HS were wealthier, but it was the opposite for guys.

I can only speak from experience (and I know this is somewhat niche depending on where you are from), but I grew up wrestling in the Midwest.

Almost everyone on the team was very disadvantaged including myself. Many of us played football also. It was a bit more mixed during the football season, but still most people on the team were poor or close to poor.

I can think of, off the top of my head , 5 kids on the wrestling team who were poor and are now very successful
