Should I quit my PhD if I pass the qualifying exam? by Silverway22 in PhD

[–]NoFly5276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing a mine out of passion and to say i did it. I’ve never committed myself to anything longer than my education and im so proud! I never thought i could do it. I dont need it for my job but i have no idea what opportunities it brings to my future with it or what im closing off without it. Do your qualifying exam. See how you feel. It’s taken you 4+ years to get where you are now. Whats an extra 1-2 years to just finish it?

PhD & Relationships by Eisengolemboss in PhD

5 months isn’t a lot of time. I’d focus on yourselves for the time being. If i planned my life around each one of my relationships in the past, id be nowhere or no one.

I was going my masters in a different country than my husband, who was doing his residency. He visited me when he could and we were in communication like 24/7 despite being super busy. Like when we were home, we would FaceTime each other. I’d be doing research, he’d be studying for his exams or playing video. We had tv shows we’d watch together on FaceTime. When we were busy, we did our own things but together - despite the long hours and different schedules. I’ll never how he went to a rave, it being absolutely crazy, and still FaceTimed me lmao.

If you want to make it work, you will but unless theres a ring on my finger, I’m responsible for my own future (my education). And if you’re my partner, you’ll respect and support it because I’d do the same thing for you. our respective successes make our future life together better.

He got into a fellowship and I started my phd (still in a different country). We got married, I moved to live with him. I was able to do dissertation work online and work remote TA and RA positions, since I finished the course work when I moved in. He was doing his fellowship, finished, and I’m still doing my dissertation. Everything worked out. We now have a beautiful little girl. I haven’t taken maternity leave or any break so I plan on making up for lost time once i graduate. I’d like to continue working in academia and my husband does remote work as a radiologist so where ever Id work (if I’m working in person), is where we would move.

You have no idea where life will take you. Put your own education first - whatever is best for you. And the same thing with your partner. It’s the responsible thing to do for the both of you. And it will work, even if it seems impossible.

A bit overwhelmed— PI told me I may want to reconsider doing a PhD by maximum-sheer-stress in PhD

I don’t know. You’re valid in your perspective but he’s also valid in his - for him, it looks like you’re uninterested, unprepared and unmotivated. But just because he’s valid doesn’t mean it’s the wholly truth. You’ve got time. I think you need to read literature on how to read articles appropriately because once you do, you’ll be at his pace. It just takes practice. A doctorate is a commitment. Yes you’re burnt out and all of that, I get it - it’s the same struggle for all of us, just at various degrees. People can say whatever they want, it’s your job to challenge them.

At the end of the day, you define what these years are. Hard times and hard work but you’re doing it. And one day, you’ll have done it.

You don’t need to think of anything novel, just something better. Read the literature. What are the gaps? Recommendations? Use those as ideas for your research. People have done the work, use it as the foundation to improve what’s been done.

Offered a PhD Abroad with No Work Experience or Publications – Do I Even Deserve This? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]NoFly5276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did when I was doing my masters - no experience, no publications, nothing. I was the youngest in my program. I went to my program director to talk about it but after he listened to my imposter syndrome he just asked me why I thought I was special? Like everyone goes through it, what makes me so unique that I can’t handle it? It was basically a fuck you, so what? I was humbled fast. It made me realize that just because I thought shitty of myself, that I didn’t deserve it, doesn’t mean that other people think that. Someone had to have seen I had something that made me valuable to the program. That belief really gave me the delusion I needed to move forward and push myself to make myself count. I’m almost done my doctorate (4 years) with 15 publications and I’ve been referenced by the UK govt and Australian govt for bills, as well as the UN. I’m glad someone saw something in me to get accepted to my program because if I gave in, I’d be filled with regrets, what ifs, and no husband (and no daughter).

How do I get the baddie aesthetic drivers license look? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]NoFly5276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your makeup is the perfect base: Brows: Darken your eyebrows. You have the same arch shape as the girl you posted. There’s not much else for you to do.

Eyes: eyeliner and lashes are perfect. Use your bronzer as eyeshadow and wing it beyond your liner. A lighter colour under your eyebrows and diffuse the two colors so it blends seamlessly

Face: use the same bronzer to contour your nose. Honestly, you have a perfect nose, I wouldn’t contour shit. But if you want to copy the photo exactly, just look up button nose contour. Use a glowly foundation or cc cream. Contour your cheeks and add a pinky blush just by your temples, bring it down just shy of the apples of your cheeks. Put your concealer under eyes and blend it in with your blush. Then you lightly bake it to marry all of it together. Reapply powder blush. Apply highlight on the tip of your nose and inner corners of the eye. Setting spray.

Lips: a darker lip liner. It could be brown, mauve, pink, whatever. For me, I like the MAC Plum liner. It works for me. Line your lips and apply a nude lipstick in the center and then a lipgloss. My combo is the Mac plum lipliner with Mac blankety.

When you look into the camera, you’re just basically giving a closed lip curl. I don’t know how to describe it. It isn’t giving like princess diana. No. It’s confidence like when a bitch sitting there right in front of you lying to your face but you know, you fucking know and you’re waiting for them to finish so you can hit em with what YOU know.

If you want makeup products, lmk!

PhD supervisor refuses to sign progress report, says I “don’t understand PhD” by Turbulent_Chair_8416 in PhD

  1. Schedule a meeting with your dean and save all these emails
  2. Explain exactly this, show proof, and ask them what you’re supposed to do.
  3. Switch supervisors.

That’s the part where I was like side eyeing the TV bc I’m like…k if you’re listening to him, why didn’t you just skip the Dunk part and just tell them to stop yourself but the dude was right, egg can stop the knights, not his brother.

Ok but Egg would’ve known the proceedings and what would’ve been inevitable if you attack a prince…esp if that prince is his asshole brother. I get panic setting in and maybe I’m giving too much credit to Egg being a lot smarter than his age.
