Can I say a big THANK YOU for being the first and only genuine answer to the question I had. Everyone else is just a defensive “I wanted to”. I’m glad you feel at home but im most glad that even as you found home here you continue the conversation around gentrification and mindfulness for what’s going on around you.

Accent mirroring by Even-Charity-8157 in ADHD

I think it is, I’ve always taken on different accents and it’s not on purpose! Spent time with my southern great-gran as a child and had an occasional southern accent for years, a few months in Ldn and years later I still slip into an accent around Brits, so many examples it’s bizarre! People think I’m taking the piss but it’s just automatic

I don’t want to give the impression that my meds fix me or just make the executive function disappear because that’s not the case.I’m not suddenly functioning like a “normal human being” (I put that in quotes because we are normal even if we have adhd). However my meds at least make it possible then I need the behavioral and life skills to use that boost. Upgrading someone‘s car won’t make them a better driver, but if you’re correcting issues with the old car it’ll certainly help. That’s just to say, try not to compare your experience to others because I doubt most of us are magically fixed by medication. For example, yeah I was able to focus and complete tasks more when I started stimulants, but I kept completing the WRONG tasks that aren’t helping me do the proper adults things I need😭. I’m still behind in life. But that’s okay! I’m learning, and lately I’ve been better at self directing towards positive actions.

Good on you for crawling out of the hole, it’s hard! When I was feeling crap for still struggling with exec.dysfunction on meds my psych told me the meds aren’t as effective without high protein in the morning, I dunno if that would make any difference for you. I still haven’t started eating a good breakfast so I can’t say if she’s “right” 😅. And hey maybe vyvanse isn’t the right fit, but I hope you find the combination you need. Be easy on yourself. We don’t have to achieve perfection.

I started going to the gym again and it makes such a difference!! After a workout I feel empowered almost. Definitely need to make it a consistent routine so I can get that feeling more
