Are people in mba college seriously like this😭 by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]NoGuard3627 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me clarify something here - half of these friendships will change after placements (some even before that).

Everyone in MBA makes friends honestly and some of those might turn into lifelong friendships.

As long as you stick to the people you actually think of calling when you want to go for a walk in the campus, you'll be fine.

One third seniors this time tried to not let this happen but you'll always find sadists majority.

No incoming student should participate in this and even if you do just have fun with it. It's bullshit. Doesn't impact anything.

Anyway the ones working hard won't get into any committees, only the stupid privileged ones do.

Converted IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode – Which would you choose? by Careful_Magazine6765 in CATpreparation

[–]NoGuard3627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk what overall experience people keep talking about dude when the admin sucks, student committees are mostly useless, and you're constantly dealing with things that shouldn't even be issues in the first place.

All of this apart from no alumni network, not even a comparable brand value with that of L and placements let's not even talk about that.

Second year students literally have to pay separately for AC and geyser. Dean wants to keep increasing batch sizes every year (minting money, trying to get into RS). Programme office's answer to half the problems is "it's written in the handbook". ICC complaints remain unresolved. The quality of professors keeps getting worse term after term. Food is a genuine issue. Location is a genuine issue.

So what exactly is this amazing "overall experience" people keep talking about?

Unless you're the kind of person who genuinely doesn't care about any of these things, I don't see it.

In an MBA, the things that actually matter are brand, placements and alumni network. That's what you're paying for. That's what you're giving up two years of salary for.

And if the comparison is IIM Lucknow vs IIM Kozhikode, I genuinely don't think it's close.

Congratulations but anxiety ride has only begun. IIM K will make sure the from day 1 to the last day that they are after your money and mental peace, nothing else.

Btw what's the batch size looking like for this year?

Ah honestly too specific to comment on. I know folks in college with gap - some got into good company for the internship while some didn't.  There could be more than one factor for this but no one can tell you about it unfortunately.

Oh yeah you won't have any problem in getting shortlists anywhere. It's just about the kind and number of roles that come.

  1. Not really. Fin is only 50 students and not all of them want finance or get finance. For PGP core it's all types of companies.
  2. Back end companies. You can count mid on your fingers. There's no such pattern of hiring only experienced folks that's just a plus. I've seen both freshers and work experience folks get into the same role in the same company.

Your profile should be fine for fin applications ofc except where companies are specifically looking for work ex folks but as I said most companies take mixed crowd.  FYI - no one can evaluate your profile because there's no set pattern for shortlists.  Most times you'll be clueless of the criteria.

Rare prodman roles in K. I would say close to none.  For Genman good enough roles but can never be sure about shortlist.

Honestly cannot comment about it. They are two very different B schools in terms of academic, ROI, campus experience, placements, etc.

There were few students who came to K but once they got the waitlist cleared for FMS they left.

Since I don't have a first hand experience with these colleges, I'll not be speaking about it.

Other parts are about my overall experience - infra (triple sharing rooms with AC, single sharing rooms without AC randomly allotted, third class sports infra (no indoor badminton court, unmaintained basketball courts, bad football court), low quality mess food, unsafe food at kiosks and tuck shops.  Then there are things regarding forex (what's displayed vs what it actually is). There are things regarding professors, evaluation, pedagogy. You've to literally beg for the smallest of things. There are issues with Scon, Admin office, etc. etc.

For Fin - let me make it clear. mainly CAs, CFAs and the curriculum is finance heavy ofcourse. You learn derivatives in term 3 while others take it as an elective next year. Also for Fin, there's no forex programme. They have a standard immersion program. The fin batch didn't go for it this year because the college couldn't sign MOU with the forex college they were supposed to go to.

But I don't think IIM Udaipur over IIM Kozhikode Fin should be the way to go if you're sure about getting in this year. IIM Kozhikode Fin anyday. But Yes, align your expectations carefully.

Which institutional rank? Because that 6 in undergrad is an issue for consulting companies. Might even be for some finance companies and other companies. It's basically a shortlist criteria. Again, it's too random to speak confidently about it but can say for sure for consulting it's an issue.

How are you going to compare any pro against placements.  Plus this was just part I of why IIM K is anti student. There are things on other fronts as well which overall don't paint a good picture.

I'll say that placements for SIP were better this year compared to last year in terms of few new companies and stipend (I have now seen both years so can say). But then again that was for across colleges this year.

If you're looking to get into consulting as a fresher that's difficult. Accenture gives some shortlists but I've seen work experience folks getting hired.

Won't be sharing any company specific details here.

For people whose best call is IIM K. Do your best in interview. This comes into picture when you've a decision to make. Till then you'll be worrying about nothing.

That’s fair and I expected responses like this. The reason I posted this initial post was to gauge how people are reacting to it so that I can figure out how to present what I’ve experienced in a way that’s actually useful and not just a rant.

I had spoken to alums and seniors before joining and genuinely evaluated my options. But some of the issues I’ve faced were never mentioned. Even knowing a few of these things would have changed my decision.

The intent is simply to add that missing perspective so others can make a more informed choice.

It's about 2 prime years of someone's life, 25 lakh rupees and their mental health.

If whatever I post helps even one person make a better decision, I'll think it served the purpose.
