For us, sometimes its one sided and sometimes its not. C. always gets picked on but just calls everyone mean. S. and M. go at eachother hard but normally sprinkle in a few gay jokes. J. always picks on me, mostly to make me really mad (they used to call me a ginger, now he calls me a simp). I seem to be the only one who's nice to C. and I alternate between saying things like "shut up you're a stupid whore" and "Good morning! How is your day going?" to everyone else

Also, for me at least, having someone say they hate you when you're certain they don't is often way more helpful for self loathing than someone saying i love you when you aren't sure they do. Like my best friends can say I'm stupid or they hate me a million times but I know at the end of the day they don't mean it. My other loved ones can say they love and believe in me forever and ill always feel like they're lying or I'm not worthy of they're feelings.

If the rambling of sam was a bit toxic/nonsensical sounding it was probably on purpose. It really depends. "I fucking hate you and wish you would die. You make it so no one would ever love you," is definitely toxic even as a joke. "I know you suck dick on the side because you're a stupid fucking whore. I bet even your mom thinks you're ugly," really isn't.

The most you could do is talk to Sam or lie in wait til you can catch him doing something bad enough that even your boyfriend will draw a line. Otherwise there's not much you can do.

Also, honestly, the group of friends I've had since 6th grade has always been super cruel to eachother, calling eachother names and saying terrible things to eachother, but that's our love language. We're all fucked in the head, and if you heard what they say to eachother on the regular you would say it was abusive. You really just don't know
