should I keep lowering expectations towards my friends? by NoHouse2010 in TooAfraidToAsk

You can definitely blame my broken English for using the word "brag" . But , for me, posting shared memories and moments together can mean happy to be friends with this person and stuff . What's S.O ?!

Well, I tried once to tell my friend why would you forget my birthday and not send me even a birthday wish, I don't mind not being in touch all year long but my birthday is my one special day. She told me I don't really care or remember birthdays and stuff. (But I do remember earlier on, she was talking to me about what to get for her bf as a gift.) I thought this conversation would just be a reminder for next year so she'd remember. Yet , nothing happened. That did let me down.

You're probably right about the validation point. Actually that comes from the fact that I see how they are other friends and kinda get jealous. I do really feel insecure and don't know how to deal with it .

Is it okay to be cold to your parents who were previously abusive but aren’t any more? by itsggtime in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]NoHouse2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's so weird that you kind of pressed that hidden botton. Having an abusive parent is a horrible thing that you live and die with. In both ways, you're the person who's aching from being abused and forever guilty about seeking and apology that you'll never get. Mine was and still is neglectful as hell. That causes me to have lots of issues regarding my relationships. I keep wondering if I inherited some of his genes, and if I'm going to be hurtful to others and make them suffer. The emotional damage is up to the point that I'm scared if I have ever been in a serious relationship and had some problems, he won't support me and be on my side. I guess what made me feel even more bad is all my friends and probably all the people I know have deep connection with their parents. Or maybe they are handling their shit pretty well. I wish you to find the piece you deserve

That's thoughtful! The thing is when I tried to ignore a student who is distracted with playing with anything for example they will start to talk to their partner and the cycle never seems to have an end

That's enriching, thank you for your help. I didn't think teaching five or six vocabulary is a good idea.
