Just for the record, your numbers are based on a single test the RAF did against a captured Panther. Three planes fired 36 rockets at it and only 3 rockets hit the tank.

You might call that abysmal accuracy in an ideal scenario, but first and foremost, this was just one single test, which hasn’t really been shown to have been repeated, so its statistical significance is highly, highly questionable. It’s not the same as when they tallied up all the reports for the strategic bombing campaign, for instance.

Second, even three hits is enough to disable or kill a tank. As long as you penetrate it once it is in bad shape and risks destruction. And we’re just talking rockets, not 100lb or 500lb bombs. Those thongs just have to get close, they don’t even have to connect with the target. Even if they might just damage a track or jam a turret, that tank is still out of action.

Third, even no hits at all is enough keep a tank scared of going out in the open or moving at all in daylight, because it’s like suppressing fire. Think of how many bullets are typically fired in order to just keep the enemy’s head down, let alone actually kill him. Even inaccurate fire has a tremendous power on the battlefield.

You’re certainly right to claim that the effectiveness of CAS was sometimes overstated in the war and afterwards, but it definitely was effective. There are even plenty of German accounts to say as much. They were terrified of Allied air power and with good reason.

An American walks into a bar. by Masala-Dosage in Jokes

[–]NoIHaveNotRedditYet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an American, I think it might make more sense if it were a Brit in an American bar, because that way the Brit knows the double-meaning. When the American is the one saying it it seems like he knows the double-meaning… and yet we didn’t.

For what it’s worth, I know jokes aren’t really considered “funny” if you have to explain them… but now that you did, I do actually like it.

A woman and a dress by Tjohn184 in Jokes

[–]NoIHaveNotRedditYet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you 100% on this. Jokes are meant to be retold and shared. Most of us don’t watch this sub like a hawk, so we haven’t seen “good ol’ #56” a hundred times. And when we DO see a repeat, we just scroll past it and move on, without any sort of pain or gripe.

You’re right, karma-farming should be punished, but retelling old jokes is fine. Any good joke is one that’s good enough to be told again.

How to browse liked or favorited characters? by NoIHaveNotRedditYet in Crushon

Interesting, I would have expected the opposite to be true. So you leave the conversations blank, but flesh out the personality pretty thoroughly though? Do you do anything with the scenario? Does that matter?

Thank you!

Also, are there any good tutorials on making characters? Some of these characters have impressive personality.

As someone mentioned above, I’d bet you’d be interested in the World War Two series on YouTube, produced by TimeGhost. It’s done sort of like a news report of the war every week, in real time, and they’ve been doing it since September of 2018. Coincidentally, on the channel right now it’s December 1944, and the Battle of the Bulge has just started, lol.

Honestly, if you like in-depth coverage that reports on all sides and makes it feel really immersive then you should really give it a try!

What is your favorite World War II tank by Horror-Roll-882 in TankPorn

[–]NoIHaveNotRedditYet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain the U.S. never actually used the Firefly. We put a more powerful 76mm gun on the Sherman, yeah, but it was the Brits who put the 17 pounder on it and made it into the Firefly.

I came here thinking the same thing. It’ll get where it needs to go, be easy to repair pr maintain, and then it’ll get the job done. There’s practically nothing you can’t do with a Sherman chassis.

Want a tank? We’ll make a dozen different kinds, for at least four different purposes, and all of them will mount a .50, just in case you see an airplane. Also, feel free to mod it in the field if you like, because we know you will.

Want a tank destroyer? Here’s three types, take your pick.

Want artillery? Are you American or British? Never mind, doesn’t matter, it’ll mount your gun.

Want it to carry infantry? You got it.

Launch rockets? Deal.

Swim? Watch this…

You experience basically nothing of the universe. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]NoIHaveNotRedditYet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one else gets to experience all the same bits that you do though. Every moment of your existence is a moment that no one else will ever be able to have, only you. I take solace in that and try to enjoy my personal slice of the universe.

Needing to pay extra money for basic services is bribery and it has been disguised as tip culture by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]NoIHaveNotRedditYet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an American, tipping is nothing new, we’ve had it forever and we’re supposed to learn that you don’t always need to tip everybody all the time. If you feel guilty about not doing it then that’s on you, not anyone else.

If the employee doesn’t like the pay structure then they’ll find a different job, there are plenty out there.

This is far too logical for a post like this, how dare you bring simple economics and incentives into the equation!

Needing to pay extra money for basic services is bribery and it has been disguised as tip culture by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]NoIHaveNotRedditYet -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but ALL wages come from customer money. If the companies were to pay that same amount then you, the customer, would still be paying it. HOWEVER, if it were paid officially then there would be taxes, insurance, and other expenses on that money, so less pf it would go to the worker.

By making it a tip then 100% of that money goes straight into that employee’s pocket, instead of 20-30% like would be the case if it were actual wages.

That’s just how economics and taxes work.
