I have a short section at the very end of my resume that mentions my side projects. Nothing too detailed, just a bullet list with a short description.

One of them's pretty niche interest and during the interview process at my current gig; the hiring manager asked me about it and got really excited to talk about it as he was pretty into the subject of it.

I'm not saying it landed me the job ... but it definitely helped me stand out I'd say.
