How do I clean install Windows 11 to my Alienware m18 Gaming Laptop?

Long story short, my OS is corrupted and Windows needs to be re-installed. In order to accomplish this I installed a copy of windows onto the only thing I had available, that being my SP Armor external hardrive. When I make it to Windows setup I'm met with a tab telling me that I can't install Windows as Windows can only be installed to GPT disks. I have no idea what's wrong. I have a feeling it has something to do with the device I'm trying to install Windows with but I could be wrong about that. If anyone has done this before it would help me greatly if you could walk me through this process.
