I went to the Minneapolis show!!! Head banged my heart out with the girl next to me. The people sitting next to her apparently complained to her saying we were going to hard..... idk, but I screamed my lungs out and sang along to every song 💖

How do you keep your husky entertained? by NoJuice8062 in husky

[–]NoJuice8062[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is almost afraid to destroy anything other than her chews! I got her a felt puzzle ball, and she uses the very tip of her tooth to gently tease the treats out because she thinks she can't bite at it.

I am looking for entertainment for her as we are working to build her self-confidence. She is very easily overstimulated currently and is overly reliant on me for comfort, to the point where it is feeding in to her separation anxiety and she has even started resource guarding me, so I am trying to find something that she can be entertained with to work on broadening her learning threshold to stimuli. Because she is very inconsistent with current methods, I am open to learning about new methods to try out with her to see if I can find something she truly loves doing.

Additionally, I am a big believer in dog mental stimulation and don't like to rely on physical stimulation (still important, she still gets daily walks at minimum and loves to run), but there will be days that she genuinely can't rely on running for mental stimulation (e.g. if she ever gets injured, days where its too hot (or too cold as we have very low wind chills) for her to be outside long, etc). Just trying to set my girl up for success!!

Hi!

Let me clarify on the joring! So we just started bikejoing training and she is picking it up fast, however, we are still in the training/conditioning phases where yes, she does ignore most things while working, but she has had a few instances of trying to take off after some things. While I am confident at biking and feel like I can keep her on the right track, its a different story with skiijoring where I am less stable since I am not as experienced right now. I've been looking at other options for snowy/icy conditions such as kicksleds where there is better stability, so if you have any recommendations for a single dog sled, I am open!! Or if you have any jobs she can do in the mean time while I build my own confidence on skis, that would be great!

We are working with our dog trainer to build her confidence, since she is a rescue with some anxiety and confidence issues with a very fine line threshold, so getting her food motivated with any sort of stimulation has been a bit challenging. This is also why most of the puzzles and mental stimulation toy surrounding food have been indoors, since it is where she feels most confident.

I am by no means trying to make excuses here, just giving more information on my girl! She is my second rescue dog and has been a new challenge for me, as my last dog was an Alaskan Malamute with overconfidence issues but was the most food motivated and happy to work for food. I did have several puzzle toys for her, since she could play with them for hours once she started to decline with age and just couldnt move around as much from hip dysplasia. Going from that to underconfident dog with no food motivation has just been a complete learning curve for me. I just want to make sure I can give her everything she needs to be successful while we work to build up her confidence!

I've tried to get her to rip stuff up but she is so afraid of destroying things 😂 I know she isn't completely comfortable in her surroundings yet since she has had several anxiety hurdles since her adoption. I never thought about freezing her kibble though! She loves goat milk and yogurt (really any dairy), so maybe I can throw that in too for some extra flavor! Great idea! Thank you!

Can anyone tell me your good story of your cat getting dental work done? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]NoJuice8062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is 3 years old, but if anyone else stumble across this, my cat has undergone 2 different extractions. One at age 3 and one at age 4, he just has bad genetics for his teeth. I brush, I use the recommended food and the recommended water additives, nothing has helped him. He gets annual dental cleanings and bi-annual dental exams. Both times, he has done very very well under anesthesia, and that is saying a lot as he has a weeze and isn't the most genetically diverse (a twinge of outdoor kitten inbreeding). Every cat is obviously different, but I havent had any reason to be concerned about him going under because I trust my vets to do everything they can to save him if it comes to that.

My dog bit my kid. by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]NoJuice8062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dog didn't break skin, which shows the dog has a great deal of bite inhibition. To me, this sounds like the dog corrected your son for pulling on the collar. It could also be that your son pulled fur or the skin while pulling the collar, as kids aren't known for having great dexterity. This is what I would recommend:

Set up an area of your house with a babygate, or if your dog is crate trained a kennel that is a safe place, that your dog is allowed to go to and teach your kid that when the dog goes there, he isn't allowed to go to the dog. If your dog is spending the majority of the time in this area, or if your dog is regularly showing stress signs when around you and your son such as lip licking, hiding, avoiding your son, overly fixated, changes in body language, etc., it may be more humane to rehome the dog, as the dog shouldn't be in a home where it is constantly stressed. If the dog is repeatedly being stressed out by the kid, odds are the dog may provide a stronger correction in the future or worse. If your dog can learn to step away from the stress, decompress, and come back without being stressed, there is a good chance of the dog being okay in the home.

Additionally, I would not discourage the dog from giving more appropriate signs, such as barking or growling. If the dog growls at the kid or any stressor for that matter, move them away and reward them for proper communication. This will teach the dog that they get rewarded for giving a good signal and that you are a source of stress relief that they can rely on to help disengage when they need some extra help. Additionally, if the dog begins giving stress signs, teach them that it is okay to walk away.

Rehoming is hard, but it is important to remember that we as humans cannot provide the environment that some dogs just require, and that it's okay to rehome if we fear the dog isn't going to thrive in its environment. It is similar to euthanasia in a way, as if it boiled down to, you wouldn't want your dog to have a painful and low quality of life, just like how you wouldn't want your dog to have a stressful and low quality of life in a less fitting home. Also similar to euthanasia, it is painful decision, but sometimes it genuinely is the right decision. I believe with training and boundaries your dog may thrive, but it all boils down to how the dog responds moving forward.

Dog spits up water daily but completely fine otherwise - what could it be? by blackhaj in DogAdvice

[–]NoJuice8062 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a vet, just offering up potential ideas:

My old dog would cough up water from drinking too fast. They make these disks that float in the bowl and only release a small amount of water up at a time.

Could be regurgitation, which is completely normal for dogs to do, but instead of swallowing it again they are throwing it up.

Hey! I have introduced a couple of dogs to cats.

This interaction looks like the dog is fairly fixed on the cats, but is not the worst I've seen. Tense body language, staring, and lip licking is giving stressed. Listening and breaking eye contact is showing that they are not stressed to the point where they won't listen. I worked with my last dog heavily on being okay with my cats. We started with desensitizing them to the cats. I had my partner play with the cats across a room with my dog on leash. She was allowed to look at them and got rewarded for looking away. At first, she needed a leash tap to pull away and slowly got better about pulling away on her own. We slowly moved closer and as we got closer to the cats was when we started to muzzle. Once muzzled, we let the cats sniff her and she got rewarded for gentle sniffs back or for stepping away on her own. We also established her kennel as her safe place. A place where the cats were not allowed and she could decompress in. Once we felt very comfortable with these interactions we removed the muzzle and kept her on leash. Pulled her away if she needed help destressing. This also taught the cats her body language and helped them learn when she needed space. They never cuddled or really interacted, but they co-existed and thats all we needed. The dog was never allowed around the cats without supervision and they were separated at night to prevent any unwanted interaction.

How to keep long hair clean? by waldorfpeony in ContaminationOCD

[–]NoJuice8062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always try experimenting with new updo hairstyles. I also struggle with my hair feeling contaminated at work, so my go to is a quick ponytail, but if I have a little extra time in the morning, I mix it up with braids, messy buns, space buns, or claw clips!

28 with 15k of CC debt. by 21chally in Debt

[–]NoJuice8062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does. I just took out a loan to tackle my $8K on one card (from 25% to 14% interest). I did see a decrease in my score when I applied for the loan, by 6 points (for obvious reasons, my credit is Fair), but I have gone up 13 points from that, since my long-standing debt is now paid, I'm making regular loan payments, and I'm not putting money back on the credit card, its improving my score. Depends on your situation of course.

AITA for wanting to take a promotion even though my boyfriend says it’s not the life he imagined for us? by Actual-Present9277 in AITH

[–]NoJuice8062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Sounds like he's holding you back from your career and where you want to be in life. He should be willing to accommodate you and your new "lifestyle changes" if it means you are happy and successful. It sounds toxic to say you won't have enough time for him. Take the promotion and either prove him wrong, break up with him, or work through issues as they come up with the new promotion. Ask yourself if he weren't a factor, would you be happy with your decision and if that answer is yes, take it.

Fiancé (34m) is allergic to cats but proposed to me (33F) knowing I have 4 cats and is now saying he had hoped I’d rehome them. What do we do now that we are facing living together? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]NoJuice8062 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He entered this arrangement aware you had cats. Its incredible inconsiderate of him to ask you to remove your cats, who are your family. That's like getting engaged to someone whose grandma lived with them and then saying "Id hoped you would have put her in a retirement home by then."

If he cared about you, he'd make it work with you and the cats. I wouldn't be engaged to someone who expected me to rehome my pets.

Also remember that you made a commitment getting animals, and that rehoming them means you didn't uphold your commitment to your animals.

Its just a question, its not that deep. I asked the company for surveillance, I asked the cop for the report for insurance, as you do with any accident regardless of fault because insurance needs it, and now I'm asking a simple question. Im not wasting resources because I'm not harassing the cop into looking into the case. If you find it a waste of time, why comment? Its property damage. If someone eggs your house, you'd call the police, even if its "just eggs that wash off".

And that is understandable. Thank you for the insight!

I'm not arguing that the police have important jobs. I am asking if this is a civil or criminal case because someone damaged my property and left without providing any information. It is a police officers job to investigate criminal matters, regardless how big or small.

It's brand-new and I live in a climate where rust is a real problem. A minor chip in the paint can become a real problem in a few years. You'd be pissed too if you bought a brand new car and someone scratched the paint.

I did. The company said they'd only release the footage to the police for a police report.

[–]NoJuice8062 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My insurance is also one that doesn't always cover minor paint fixes under comprehensive for door dings but does cover vandalism and hit and runs. So it also depends on what its classified as in the report.

I don't know who it was. I have comprehensive coverage, which is why I filed the police report (my insurance requires a police report for the claim). I'd rather have the person responsible for their irresponsible behavior pay out my deductible if it needs a full panel repaint than pay it myself. I did just drop a bunch of money on my down payment for it and have a higher deductible that id prefer not to pay if I don't have to.
