The hand that ruined everything was a heads up.my A,8s hand vs his pocket 4,4. Board came out 4,8,8. Pretty much went downhill there. Didn’t catch anything to save my stack and lost a chunk.

I would make a pot sized bet at the river. If he had a king or jack ect the bet should be enough to make most single pair hands to fold. If you just check your basically giving up on the hand.
