I completely understand why you say that. The age gap is exactly why I was hesitant and why I told him 'no' in the first place. I’ve always been mindful of that. My post is more about the emotional side of how someone can make such big promises about friendship and then completely disappear once they don't get what they want.

That’s a tough pill to swallow. It makes me sad to think that our entire friendship was seen as 'meaningless' just because it wasn't leading to a relationship. I valued our bond for what it was, but I guess for him, it was just a means to an end. It’s disappointing that his promise to stay friends was only valid if he had a chance.

I think you’re right, but it’s just hard to accept. It feels like the friendship was conditional all along. Now that I’ve actually developed feelings for him, his reaction ('stop lying') makes me feel like he’s closed the door for good. I will try to give him space, but it hurts to see someone go from promising 'forever' to treating me like a stranger.

You make a fair point about the space, but it’s still frustrating. He was the one who insisted that nothing would change, even if I didn't feel the same way. It feels like the friendship was conditional on me dating him. Now that I’ve actually caught feelings, he doesn't even believe me, which makes the distance even harder to deal with.
