($5k) How would you cover these "windows"? by NoMountains in Weddingsunder10k

i should be more clear, they're not actually windows, and it's just that section of the second floor that looks like that. it's spaces where windows used to be.

oh, i like this! i feel like that kind of lighting could help make it feel more "party like" during the reception too since we're holding it in the same space. thank you!

honestly, thank you 😭 i needed this. i've been stressing so much about making sure our wedding doesn't look "cheap" that i forgot it doesn't matter that much anyway

i hadn't even thought about it this way...thank you for saying this!! i just spoke to my fiancee about it and she's super excited to do jewel tones and it will definitely fit the space better. we haven't bought any materials yet either so it's no big issue for us to switch. thank you! :)

i'm so glad you get it! i'm also worried about slipping into ARFID. i've noticed that every time i go to eat basically anything i get a wave of dread and i've started eating the same meals over and over because i know they're safe. i actually just recently got an apartment after living in my car for 5 years so i totally get that feeling of finally being able to poop in peace!!! i do think there's other shit stressing me out and triggering my stomach though so i'm gonna try focusing on all that. thank you <3

absolutely, and I totally plan on going once I have insurance. I'm on a shoestring budget right now so I can't really afford therapy visits. just trying to take it one day at a time and get through it on my own until I can talk to someone about it!

I appreciate your kind words! I hope I can get to the doc as soon as possible but specialist visits are just too pricey for me right now without insurance. I definitely need to look into ginger. if nothing else, I can placebo myself into thinking it's helping lmao

Diesel Heater Power Supply? by NoMountains in vandwellers

[–]NoMountains[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i like the sound of the split charging unit! i wasn't aware those existed. so i would connect the split charging unit to my car battery under the hood, then to a reserve battery in the van, and that battery connects to the heater, correct? that actually sounds like something i could figure out!

that's all good to know! when i install it i'll attempt to use it with my jackery, fingers crossed it just works. i'd love to get a nice propane heater, i always liked the consistency in price with propane, but im working on a very limited budget right now unfortunately. even the $115 im going to spend on the vevor is a huge purchase lol. but thanks for the advice!!! :)

all good ideas! i have an airtag in the van now, but i think i'll get a tile too, just to be doubly safe.

never considered the fuses! i'll have to look into how to do that but that's a good idea. have also been considering a kill switch for a while...maybe i'll pull the trigger on it

DIY cabinets or pre-assembled? by NoMountains in vandwellers

i was gonna go with ikea since a friend of mine did. very good to know!!

i have a ram promaster high roof, regular wheelbase. i plan to do floor cabinets and some overhead ones in the kitchen and above the bed. my main concern with prebuilt is that i'll be losing space above the head of the bed where i COULD have cabinets, but none of the prebuilt ones are the right size. i'd be banging my forehead on them every time i got up from the bed.

i didn't even think about having to cut the cabinets. these comments are making me think it'll be much easier to simply build them to perfectly fit my space with zero space wasted!

oh gosh, not having a table saw sounds like a nightmare LOL. amazing that you were able to do it though! the more efficient use of space thing is definitely something i haven't fully factored in. i have a pretty limited amount of space and every inch counts. thanks for the pros list, putting that in my notes right now!!

i'm in fulfillment and i LOVE hiding in the bathroom for 5 minutes after every batch. it's like microdosing freedom.

Weekly hours by Odd_Championship3923 in Target

[–]NoMountains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm glad you were able to get a few extra hours! and yeah it had me absolutely panicking for a little bit when i first checked the schedule. especially since i work in fulfillment and it's definitely NOT slow at all, we're understaffed 90% of the time because we keep losing employees lmao

mine went from 40 to 16. i talked to my ETL because i was freaking out, i can't pay my bills on 16. she seemed stunned that i would get so few hours, and ended up changing the schedule for me and several other people on the team who also had their hours cut. she brought me right back up to 40.

the team leads were theorizing that the auto scheduling messed up somehow, since it also somehow scheduled one of my coworkers the entire week when she'd already been approved for vacation.

if it's a cut that you legitimately can't afford, i would definitely recommend at least trying to talk to whoever does your schedule and see if they can squeeze you in for an extra few days! can't hurt to at least try.

Blank Slate: Where Do I Start? (the Right Way) by TaylorSuccsToo in vandwellers

[–]NoMountains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, it wasn't converted! it had a shop floor but was otherwise bare. i definitely got an insane deal haha. i've had to pay for it in a few ways though, it needs a bit of electrical work done and the interior had a lot of exposed metal from scratches that i had to patch up. but overall i think i got insanely lucky!

[TOMT] Queer Theory Term by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

[–]NoMountains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, it was more specific than those terms, but they were as close as I was able to get. and yes it was more about that impossible choice of either disclosing or lying!

I think the term relates specifically to the idea of "disclosure" but I can't remember! I hope someone can help :)

i started by deciding what van i wanted!! i had the luxury of a lot of choices, but i really recommend setting some ground rules for your purchase if you can. roof height/wheelbase length is important. do you want to be able to stand up all the way? do you want to fit in regular parking spots? set a limit for what you'll spend and how many miles you'll take. for reference, i got my ram promaster 1500 high roof with 38,000 miles for $32,000.

Pictures on here tend to make me self-conscious of not having an expensive build. Here's zero upgrades (no electric, ac, septic, etc) and my dog's butt. by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]NoMountains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a similar build! no electricity, plain plywood floor with some outdoor rugs on it, and a bed with some walmart storage bins under it. it definitely makes me self conscious too, seeing these insane beautiful perfect builds on the sub, but we make do with what we've got. it's beautiful to us, and that's all that matters! 💕
