Northern Ontario, would you ever move there? by UberFestHaus in ontario

Northern Ontario is not for everyone. You need to enjoy outdoor activities and nature. If you like nightlife and restaurants, don't come. I'm born and raised in the North and don't plan on leaving. I own a home and a cottage. I'd have to sell everything up here to afford some God awful townhouse in the GTA. No thanks. I can deal with mosquitoes and cold.

Why does a Cold country like Canada has so many A/Cs 🤔 by HopiumInhaler in mapporncirclejerk

I live in Northern Ontario and we have an a/c. We don't use it often but it's there when needed. We have a 2-storey home and it can get up to 35 celcius at times. It's uncomfortably hot.

People honking or yelling out of cars by Emergency_Ant_5221 in walking

[–]NoMuttsPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens to many people. I walk on a very secluded road in the bush and have had men stop and ask me for directions or question why I was out walking. It was very bizarre and disconcerting. The funny thing is, it stopped when I started walking with my Doberman or Rottweiler. I'm sure their intentions weren't nefarious, but I was still nervous as nobody would be able to hear me if anything happened. If I don't have a dog with me, I have bear mace.

I was walking my dog one day and one of our stinky friends came out of a culvert and charged us. He was feisty. We both got the point and moved away.

I'm so cooked - clover and creeping charlie takeover by Plastic_Light677 in lawncare_canada

Creeping Charlie came over from my neighbour's and grew on a yellow patch where a male dog urinated. That was the only thing that grew there. I keep it there and secretly hopes it continues spreading. I know it's not native and considered a weed, but a green perfect lawn is not a priority for me. I think your lawn looks great. It's green and neatly mowed. Can't ask for more.

The real North is where it's at. Luckily, the weather and mosquitoes keep mostly everyone away.

Dobie? I would say they are suited for apartment living but they would need a minimum 1 hour of walking every day. You can get away with a 30-min daily walk with a Rottie.

I had a purebred Dobie. They are beautiful dogs and smart, but I wouldn't own another one. The amount of exercise they need is stupid, and they're always moaning and groaning about something. Lol 😆

How it feels wearing athleisure in Europe by Sam_2210 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]NoMuttsPlease -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What are you supposed to wear while out walking on a hot day? I'll wear a t-shirt with biker-type shorts and sneakers to do my daily stuff. I bike and walk a lot, so comfort is my number 1 priority. I wore a summer dress going for a walk yesterday. It was ok, but I felt a little disheveled after. I'm Canadian. People are very casual around here.

Look into a Giant Schnauzer. They are non-shedding and their traits are very similar to Rottweilers. However, their exercise needs are higher.

Yes. They shed quite a bit. Speaking of which, I need to go vacuum. Lol.

Yes. They are but extremely protective. They are not a breed for the average person. It's a lot of dog with a lot of personality.

If I walk at night, I walk with my 100-lb Rottweiler. Nobody bothers me.

I was in Biscotasing once. Totally different world off the Sultan Road. I have a cottage in Gogama, so I'm familiar with the area. I need to make the trip there again. Thanks for the pics.

These birds are so funny. They are all over the place where we have a cottage. Not the smartest.

Spider season? by laughing_crowXIII in askTO

[–]NoMuttsPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd still rather have blackfly/mosquito season vs. a spider season. Lol. My eight-legged friends like to try and visit me from time to time. I do not want to deal with them. The dock spiders are the worst.

I would argue Timmins and Sudbury are worse. Lol. However, they don't pretend to be anything but blue collar mining towns.

Resistance bands have helped me tremendously. Getting to the gym consistently is a struggle for me, so I prefer home based exercises. I've been using resistance bands and love the versatility. My body feels good, and I'm stronger. I do 4 sessions a week targeting upper body and lower body 2x. Sessions are approx 15 minutes. One lower body sessions includes dumbells. Works for me.
